Grimmspeed 2x thick gasket helped me with a leak. As for silicone gasket maker try permatex copper.

I take it you have a 3" test pipe? I can see it might causing a slight issue with the 2.75" Borla piping, but not enough to cause that much of a leak. I'd start off by getting a new gasket first, make sure it's a 3" gasket instead of the OEM size, that might be your problem. Also make sure the bolts are tightened properly.
Yes 3 inch tp, the gasket is a 3in but seems to be just slightly too big since the borla outerdiameter has maybe 1 mm of gasket to work with. I'm going to a store to find the liquid gasket. I've tried looking for exhaust gaskets around here in town and noone has them.

Got the permatex copper gasket maker and some exhaust sealant for the other connections. Took everything apart, put the sealant on the inner pipes, slid the outer pipes on tightened then put another coat of sealant around the edges. The gasket maker wasn't as easy as I was under the car by my self and about 8 inches of clearance... ha, unbolted midpipe, removed the 2 week old 3in vibrant gasket. Beaded the midpipe end connection with the gasket maker and slowly mated it with the test pipe. Now, critical part. I tightened the bolts without shifting either end of the pipe, and tightened until I saw the gasket maker 'start' to squeeze out. Stopped tightening then put another round of maker around the mating parts. Its about 35F outside right now wo ill let at least 12 hrs to cure. I figure around 10 o'clock tonight ill start the car, check for leaks and let it run idle for 20 mins. Let it cook for a bit. Turn it off, then get her out on the road tomorrow.

Now is there anything I did wrong or could have done better?

Hopefully this reduces the nose signifcantly and my tp/midp doesn't shake the crap out of my car... otherwise, ill take it to a shop to get it done professionally.

Note: I completed all of this around 1030.

Permatex copper has done wonders for me in the past with exhaust leaks. Curing time is essential..24 hours is suggested and this also depends on temperature.At 35F I would try to give it the suggested 24 hours of curing time.

Sounds good, I guess there is no point testing an hr before I usually go to bed. It just feels weird not torquing the bolts but I guess it makes sense , otherwise there wouldn't be a gasket between the two pipes, eh?

I would evenly re-torque the bolts to their recommended value before permatex cures...so it seals flange to flange and seals any gaps you may have.

Not that bad, Bryan had his RA up into the 300's with the smaller stock exhaust, no problems. I think he or someone else with an older Evo has the stock exhaust and uses it on the track.

I was a bit surprised too.. Looks great, just wish this sealant stuff works. I retorqued after 8 hrs. Started it up, and there was still a leak on the top part of the testpip midpipe connection. Slapped more gasket maker and sealant around the entire thing. Looks like crap, but ill clean it all up when this thing gets solved. Was noticeably quieter but still a bit loud.. tho I was in the garage. Good note is the exhaust actually makes it all the way through this time, the oil precipitate from manufacturing finally started smoking out. Had it on for about a min. Hopefully tomorrow its good to go.

I'm sorry, I didn't mean to sound as though I was questioning the performance potential of their exhaust. I have owned Borla exhaust products in the past and they are absolutely top-notch, I was just surprised since the majority of offerings are all 3" and this difference seems to be causing fitment issues when combined with some other products.

No no, I wasn't going against what you were saying. No worries man.

In fact, I was looking at Borla's site yesterday and they mentioned that hey have a 600+ hp Vette running on one of their systems that has 2.5" piping.

I guess for our cars, it would need to have an upgraded Evo-sized turbo with a long downpipe and either a HFC or test pipe for the Borla to start straining a bit.

Once you get that leak taken care of you'll be good to go.

In fact, short story about my Eclipse and installing the Borla on it. The OEM exhaust midpipe flange and the cat flange actually rusted and fused together. We had to cut the old exhaust off and ended up with the bolts still there in the cat flange. So we ended up cutting the ends of the flanges off to free the bolts, mounted the Borla on, put the gasket and new bolts in place, then JB weld the flange pieces back on and wrapped it in thermal exhaust tape. That's redneck for you, but it worked and never leaked.

I would love to weld these two damn pieces together if it still leaks. I am about to go test it out in an hr.

Zero, how loud is ur borla, mine is rediculous in cabin. If its supposed to be this loud and resonate the crap out of my cabin at 2500 rpm then this thing was a mistake.

If I can't return it I'm going to get two resonators for each exit... I didn't even check for leaks yet. I was too pissed.

Mine isn't too bad, although it is the loudest system I've owned from them on any vehicle. You have to keep in mind, other than that small "mini muffler" on the midpipe, it's all straight pipe.

I do get a little bit of resonation between 2200 and 2500 RPMs but only under heavier throttle, at highway speeds it's not bad at all. If you're worried about it, remove the test pipe and get a resonated test pipe, that way it's removable and you won't have to hack up the Borla.

I'm not a fan at all of loud, droning exhausts, and I'm happy with all of the Borlas I've owned including this one.
