Question Start issues?

Every so often (couple weeks) my car fails to start when I turn the ignition the first time. On the second attempt it tries and tries for several seconds before sputtering to life. Every subsequent attempt works fine.

My only mods are an AMS boost pill, and GST 93 octane boost pill basemap tune and some rallyarmor flaps. Today I'm going to put an HKS filter in.

The car has done this both before and after my tune, and my car is parked in a heated/cc garage. It has about 4800 miles and 1 oil change so far (valvoline full synethic 5w-30).

Is this something I should worry about?

My car does the same thing and I am stock. Once in a blue moon it will fail to start on the first try.

I wouldn't worry about it too much. I have heard a few people on here have the same issue, and it looks like its just a general quirk.

This is a known, unresolved issue.

However, I have noticed that if I turn the ignition key to the ON position for 1-3 seconds before starting the motor I do not encounter this issue.

Hope this helps!

There are 3-4 different updates Mitsu has done to the starter relay. I would take it in to make sure you have the right one. Apparently it's under the battery where it tends to get corroded. The new one is alot more corrosion resistant and should work for you. I believe they said mine was fine about 5 months ago, then when I went in 1 month ago they replaced it with the brand new updated one.

Yep, I think that's been the consensus in other threads that I've read about this problem.

I have that problem too
I have that problem when I have the ignition at ON for too long though. When I start it up without doing that it's fine

+1. turn the key on without starting the car and leave it there for just a couple seconds to allow the fuel pump to prime the system and you shouldnt have any problems

Turn the key just to light up the dash, strap yourself in the seat, crank the engine. That's my routine.
