Review: Sprint Booster.

So today and this week i will be reviewing the Sprint Booster. For those who are unaware of the product heres a link to there site http://www.sprintboostersales.com/de...cer&engine=Gas

Coles notes of the product are essentially claimed as this.
Sprint Booster gives you:
  • Quicker acceleration
  • Faster passing
  • Responsive uphill driving
  • Quicker gear changes
  • Easier rev matching
Anyways, I installed the unit today. All together it takes about 2 minutes. It is a direct plug and play unit that goes inline on the throttle cable coming off the gas pedal. No tools or anything required which was nice.

Also before i give day one, i would like to note that this is their NEW model, which now comes with a 3 way switch, off/50%/Full which connects to the unit quite nicely. The previous model did not have the option, it was always 100% on.

Anyways, After install me and a friend went out for some quick fun. The throttle response actually suprised me. I was expecting some improvement, but at only semi warm, if in first and second gear, the car built boost and took off without any hesitation at all, something the SST crowd has gotten used too. Through out the day i used sport, and normal mode, in traffic, stop and go, and normal driving situations. ON down shifts in auto sport the car seems to shift slightly faster and smoother, and takes off with more authority then before, which was a nice amount for a DD as it was. In stop and go traffic, i could see how it might get annoying if you werent used to the amount of throttle the car now needs in relation to how it used to need, to make small precise movements, but all in all it didnt bother me at all.

Lastly today i went to an empty parking lot and did some launches. The car built break boost quicker, and launched a lot harder off a 10-12 psi launch then i remember. It does feel like there is a noticeable viable difference from before to after. I think the product at the track, and on a rally or road course would be very beneficial, but thats just me opinion.

So in conclusion on day 1 with it, I think it suprised me in the changes i felt in a positive light, and also in the lack of negative feedback i was able to muster up ( we all know how negative i can be!! lol ) In no way am i saying this product is for everyone, but i do feel it has a place in the market, and might and would be a nice addition to some Ralliart's looking for a little more pop on their setup.

yeah their site is iffy to the first look. My local dealer has sold quite a few of the newer units and had positive feed back, so i asked if i could try it for the week. This is my first general impression of the product. I guess one negative would be the price.

I have one as well; however it is the older model that is 100% on.
It does give better throttle response without question.

Is it a necessity------ No
Does it add HP -------No
Is it a Placebo---------No
Does it make driving the RA more fun IMO---- Yes
Is it expensive------- Yes $300.00 Canuck bucks

Most critics of it have never owned one or tried one for that matter.

Brandon at Platinum Mitsubishi here in Calgary lets customers try before they buy. So people like secondchace and myself benefit from such a cool dealer.

The real question is if it is worth the money to you... for some that money is better spent towards more tangible items that increase HP.

The fact that secondchace has plenty of HP(267) and he still finds with his initial trials that it adds to his driving experience says a lot for the product.

That said it is not for everyone

Cheers

I had one on my Mazda3. It does improve throttle response, but I would never put on on my RA, mainly because it will allow you to go past the RPM red line in auto-mode which is just bad (i.e. if you hold the throttle down wide open it will go past red line without shifting in auto mode).

For a crappy regular ATX I'd say go for it, but for our SST it's just not worth it.

i didnt have this problem, it shifted at the proper stop every time that i was watching. I think what RAdriver said is exactly on spot, it will add to the driving experience.

So when you say "no hesitation" does that mean it drives like a normal car?!

If so, I may need to go buy this.

This product seems like the same thing as the blitz throttle controller.
I bet it just amplifies the signals to the fly by wire.

Its funny, one of the EVO's we were testing this on was accelerating so well out of the turns when you get on it. it was causing that Brake light warning for a brief second. Figured out later it was because of the fluid slushing around in the brake system lol.

there is a diff with the blitz vs. sprint booster. SB modifies the throttle curve while the Blitz straight out amplifies it in 3 different levels. The SB i find is best with automatics while the manual version would perform similar to the blitz.
