Help, tuner destroyed my transmission

All,

Tonight the transmission on my car just started slipping in 4th gear in normal mode before it shifted to 5th. This is exactly what happened on the dyno when the guy who tuned my car said my clutch had been worn out. (see https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/09...ror-story.html)

My question are: 1.) Is Works the best option for replacement clutches? I'm thinking the 400hp power pack. 2.) Does anyone know of a shop in Colorado that can do this work? 3.) Can a Mitsubishi Service department do the work? I'm willing to sacrifice future warranty work in order to get this fixed correctly. I do not want a repeat of the bad experience I went through with Tobz Performance Tuning.

Thank you

Works makes a set of clutch packs for the TC-SST transmission?

The only one I know that makes the clutch packs for our cars is SSP.

They make 400, 500, and 600 hp clutch packs, the site lists them for the "Evo X MR" but they also work for the Ralliart.

Thank you for the information and for the link. It looks like works is bundling SSP pieces together for the package I saw from them.

I'd slow your roll before you plunk down some serious change for clutch discs.

Are you 100% sure the tuner put your stock rom back on your car?

If you send me your current ROM I can check it out

I personally sent him my stock ROM for a 2009 Ralliart by e-mail.

ASC was on and I'm running the GST 91 Oct boost pill map since I wanted to try it out since there were no issues for a couple of weeks on the stock rom. I did check my previous rom against what Slee_256 sent me (thank you again ) and it came out the same.

Today I went ahead and tried to get it to slip by putting it in 4th gear while in manual shifting mode (on normal setting). I went up and down the rpms varying my throttle from WOT to 20-30% and I couldn't get it to slip.

I did notice that if I start from a dead stop, accelerate using 50% throttle, let up around 50mph the rpms go up and down until it settles from 3rd to 5th (sometimes 6th). I'm hoping that was what I felt last night and didn't realize it. Maybe the issue has more to do with shifting points than clutches (thank god if that's the case)?

Any ideas or opinions on how I can determine for sure what is going on? I wish I knew more about this transmission and how everything works. I might also just be overly paranoid about the transmission now and overreacting on every little thing. I'm so very grateful for everyone who's helped me so far in figuring this out.

Thanks again

You might want to read up more on what ASC does and doesn't do.

I'm assuming that you're being sarcastic here Bryan and that it really doesn't matter if the ASC is "on" or "off" while tuning a car on the dyno.

Take the car to Carz performance in Lakewood. But Brian is a good guy, doesn't sound like his usual work.

ASC is just traction control and staility control combined into one neat little button that sits on the dash. It only keeps your car from spinning the tires or sliding out of control. If you have these problems on the dyno, you're not doing it right.

I wonder if RA transmissions suffer the same fate as the GTR transmissions when on rollers that are unlinked?

It might not be his usual work but that is how he treated me. I can't speak to anything else. I'm not mad anymore (since being mad doesn't do me any good). I just want to know my car is OK and won't break down on me and my family.

At this point I'm going to keep an eye on things (unless someone has a suggestion for testing the transmission myself) for now. I'll visit some local shops and ask around about who has replaced MR clutches before. Hopefully I can find a shop that has done it and warranties their work. I'll keep them on speed dial in case the clutch does completely fail.

My biggest frustration is that I brought my car to a professional to prevent it from getting damaged in the first place. I didn't get professionalism, I got a the equivalent of Rick from Accounting experimenting on my car without me knowing about it. I had no idea of the dangers involved in prolonged dyno pull sessions. I had no idea what proper cooling was for our cars (ie. transmission cooler fan). I depended on the tuner to know the limits and not break my car.

My advice for anyone who does this for a living is be honest and up front. Let the customers make the decisions about the risks before making the decision for them. If you don't know something then say so. It's better than the alternative....for everyone.
