Help! Rattling when turbo spools?

So I have been running the GST basemaps for a while now, and then recently put in a K&N air filter. A day or so after I noticed a slight rattling sound from my car when the turbo spools. At one point it made kind of like a grinding noise, but only once. Its hard to hear, but if I put in in 1st, hold the brake, and bring the throttle up slowly it starts at about 2500 RPM... anyone have any ideas? Almost sounds like something is wiggling around in there.

Only mods are boost pill, 93 octane basemap v 2.5, and K&N air filter.

It's normal bro! Granted it is annoying.

My '09 RA does the same thing. If it's not buzzing, rattling, or resonating, my Ralliart isn't happy. LOL.

I tried removing the heatshield that covers the exhaust manifold and tried rubber stuff in the dash and when it gets cold outside, the obnoxious sounds this car makes drives me insane. But everytime I hit the gas and take off like crazy, this car puts a smile on my face and it's pretty much forgiven for being so damn annoying.

if its rattling immediately after fitting the K&N I'd suggest removing it asap. It may be pinging (detonation/knocking) you're hearing. The AFM of the RA and EVO is extremely sensitive to changes (like the air filter). I would not recommend any air intake change without a custom tune to suit.

P.S. Try not to hold the brake and gas at the same time mate. All you're doing is cooking the clutches and boiling the fluid (remember its not an AUTO)

not sure if this will help, but there's a common issue that arrises when installing panel filters. read this:

Yep, got it seated properly. It's not the woosh sound that a turbo usually makes, but more of a rattling, like a rock or something is shaking around in there.

I will try removing the filter and seeing what happens, but I'm logging and seeing no knock or anything. It really shouldn't affect it as the MAF can still calculate correctly... but it never hurts to take it out and see what happens.

And yeah, I wont do that with the trans often, just that once to try'n reproduce the sound as it wont do it in neutral. It seems to need to have some kind of load to hear it. Then again, I guess it could be the clutchpacks getting louder, cause it sounds similar to them rattling around when im just stopped.

k, that's why i mention the airbox since the rattle might have been from the bottom not connecting fully. oh well, good luck. maybe something managed to drop into the airbox while you had it apart? debris that used to be stuck in the old filter maybe? with the tight clearances at the airbox it's easy to scrape things off while removing a dirty filter

Yeah, I'll check it after work today. Pretty sure nothing dropped in from a dirty filter as the car only has about 2000 miles on it, but never hurts to check.

Anyone else get this noise like Psycho09RA and myself?

Yes at extremely LOW throttle in 1st (like in my complex or a parking lot). It sounds like the turbo is starting to spool, but I let off the throttle before any real revolutions begin. As such it makes this "winding down" sound that can sometimes sounds "scratchy". I know its not the best explanation of sound, but you know what I'm talking about. The way to NOT hear it, is don't let off the throttle completely at REALLY LOW RPMS.
