Replacing the stocker plastic BOV?
What kind of gains and/or perks will I get from upgrading the BOV?
Do I really need a 250$ BOV or does for example, one these do the trick? :
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/EVO-SUBARU-POL...item20b46922d3
I know about the "you get what you pay for" principle but I'm guessing I don't need a super BOV with the kind of boost gained with the GST basemap?
What size is needed? 34-35mm, 25mm?
I don't intend to hurt my car in any way so I guess a fully recirculated like stock is the best?
Thanks

You are correct, fully recirc'd is likely best so you're not losing metered air however many run a 50/50 with (seemingly) no issues. You could probably pick up the Evo X's BPV for around the same...ish...price.
What you're really getting from the VTA bovs is sound (in addition to the ability to hold more boost). If you go cheap, you might get something even weaker or worse than the stock bpv, so buyer beware.

With the mods you have listed, a used EvoX BOV will work just fine. I don't think you are going to see much in the way of peak hp boost, but the car will pull harder.
You can usually find the EvoX BOV's in the For Sale section for about a third of the cost of an aftermarket one.

I have been in contact with someone parting out his X in the sale section but seems hard to find someone willing to ship to Sweden.
Will keep an eye out for the X bov, thanks

Changing out the stock RA BOV to one from my Evo X was one of the first mods I did on my RA along with a HKS drop in filter, and the difference is very noticeable. It's a fairly cheap mod and alot of Evo X folks are replacing their stockers, so you are bound to find one for cheap sooner or later.

It does not affect the performance of the engine, it only allows you to run more boost. Getting an evo x bpv will hold more boost than the stocker and will also usually leak less. A leaky bpv will hold you back from the boost numbers you may be aiming for or be tuned for and get less performance from your car

Well, it's really more of a Recirculation/Bypass Valve rather than a Blow Off Valve. In fact, it's actually just the same thing as the stock unit, except that it's made of metal rather than plastic, so the noise level should not change at all.

I did notice one thing (and I'd like confirmation from someone else, if they've noticed the same).
After installing the EvoX valve, I was hearing a new noise when letting off the throttle under boost. It was not the BOV venting - that still sounded the same. It sounded to me like it was the wastegate fluttering or even possibly compressor surge.
The EvoX valve will hold higher boost, so maybe that's why I'm hearing the sound now when I didn't previously.
The only mods on the car at the moment are the X bov, HKS drop-in, and razorlab v2.5 93oct boost-pill tune.
