Tune for UR Intake?

Hi there, I'm new to the tuning scene, just bought a 2011 Lancer RA, I've always had the modding bug but now i plan on doing bigger things than just the basic I/H/E.

I have been reading around for a couple of days and am pretty sure im going to go with UR Intake and knew that it requires a tune, but my question is, am I supposed to get it tuned before or after install? the reason I'm asking is cause how can they tune my AFR if they don't know what its going to be after install?

You nailed it, you will need to have your MAF recalibrated after installation, otherwise you may run into a severe lean condition. No immediate damage, but it will cause problems eventually... Don't expect to get much out of the intake though, on the ra turbo it's definitely not the most restricting part, you will see more from just running one of gst's maps than you will from just the intake. It seems to be a general consensus that the best first mod would be to pick up a tactrix and flash over the gst map for your application, it's certainly the best bang-for-buck mod anyway.

Alright, good deal. Can you elaborate a bit on what exactly i would be doing? What exactly is a GST Map changing? and what is a MAP?

Thanks

dont do anything. and if u tuned in the intake u would probably end up with a custom tune. which would be better than the base map.... generally

Also, considering your modding plans are pretty minimal, you won't notice a huge increase with the UR once tuned. You can pretty much get the same power increase with a high flow panel filter (Works, K&N, Cosworth, etc)

in no way are my plans for modding minimal =P. I want to be pushing 300whp by the fall. been reading around here alot, and once i found out that doing the basemap will decrease the custom tuning time by about an hour for the first time instead of starting from scratch i figured out im going to actually do that. Also the fact that its a nice increase in power will hold me over till i get all the parts for the X turbo swap together (plan on buying slowly piece by piece).

All your comments and advice were great help getting me on the road to where i want my RA to go!
