Upgrading the RA - Pricing Issues

Hey everyone,

Need some help here. I am upgrading my Ralliart with a larger turbo and have went to a very reliable shop (they have done this upgrade many times before).

In light of them knowing how to do this job inside and out, is the pricing below correct?

FP Green Turbo $1600
Downpipe $350
Air Intake $350
Intercooler Kit $800
Cobb Access Port $625
OEM Parts (from Evo X such as BOV, line and plumbing, exhaust manifold) $1200
Dyno Tune $700
Labour $2000
Do ANY of these numbers seem a little high? I'm in Canada by the way.
I thought the Labour of $2,000 was a bit outragious for a shop that has done this many times before.

Help Please!

WTF! I think your getting had on a lot of this. Then again, all new parts I guess its about right. I'd look into buying as much used X stuff as possible (turbo, manifold, o2, bpv, intercooler, ic pipes) and then taking that into the shop. But $700 for a tune seems quite ridiculous and so does $2,000 for install. And why are you using an AP... ECU flash can accomplish just as much if not more, and costs nothing.

Look in the X swap thread. I have a table posted in there with the cost of ALL NEW parts. Swap out the turbo in my list for an FP green. And then start researching the above parts for used prices. You'll save a LOT.

That does seem a bit high but you are in Canada. You can reference my list I compiled with prices to get an idea of cost:
https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/09...-progress.html

I don't see why the OEM parts would run $1200, tune $700, or labor $2000, but those could be situational.

Excluding the turbo and aftermarket intake, I spent roughly $600 for OEM parts, my e-tune with English Racing cost $200, and I installed everything myself.

Good to hear guys! I had a feeling there was something wrong here, but these guys are extremely good at what they do. They've done this setup many times with other Ralliarts and had no reliability issues, pushing about 350hp.

I just don't want to walk in the shop with parts and then them do a **** job.

ALso, the turbo is journal bearing. I can get a ball-bearing turbo of the FP Green but he want's to charge $2,500. What do you guys think?

On the RA, the JB turbo should be fine. AFAIK BB allows a faster spool, perhaps longer life, etc, but the faster spool on the SST isnt a great thing... causes wear on the clutches. Not to mention I don't think the additional cost associated is worth the gains. But it's all opinion. If I'm paying $2700 for labor I may say eff it and just get the best **** I can... lol

(I've never had a BB turbo, so like I said, the above is my opinion based on what I've read)

If all parts are brand new, then yes, they seem correct (except the FP Green's are now BB and $2500; maybe your shop has one the last remaining JB ones for $1600?). Skip the AP as the shop is charging you for licensing (part of the $700 dyno charge) and the actual unit ($625). Get open source and save ~$900 off the quote. Labor seems high, it cost me $500 for the turbo swap (w/ downpipe, manifold, etc), and $180 for the intake ($80 to install, $100 to make a custom inlet pipe). I'd say $1000 would be more reasonable, but I have no clue what local market prices are???
Buy a GrimmSpeed 3-port, and if you track your car a pair of catch cans (keeps oil/blow-by out of the turbo and IC).

Why run an Accessport and pay for a tune on top of it? Why not go straight to a reflash? That's a quick and easy way to save $625.

For that price you could buy an evo x turbo kit and relocate the battery plus get a tune. That's crazy high man. $7,625.00..............................

As far as Canadian prices are concerned, you may be a little low since you need to consider shipping+duty+HST (Ontario). You will be dinged with that for every part that comes across the border from the US. If you order parts from Ultimate Racing, you can get past that since they're in Toronto. For any parts coming from the US, stick with one place to minimize costs. $2000 for labor and $700 for a tune are too high. The turbo swap should not take more than 10 hours, and labor rates are usually between 100-125/hr. Most you should pay for labor would be $1250. Check around at other AWD tuners near Toronto to find out if anyone is charging less than $700. Check also to see if they can tune via ecuflash, and you've saved yourself the price of an accessport.

So in summary:
the top 4 items are priced appropriately
the bottom 4 items seem way off; drop the AP and save ~$900 (including licensing fee I'm assuming as being part of the $700 dyno tune), labor s/b half at ~$1000
To save another $1000:
Buy used Exhaust manifold, Intercooler & Piping, BPV (OEM new prices are absurd for these things).
