Variable Cam Timing?

I looked around and searched the forums, and found someone else that had the same problem as me.

I "clunking" noise that sounded like an engine knock coming from the valvetrain area, which turned out to be a cracked cam in his case, but in mine, I was old that its my VCT, or Variable Cam Timing.

Ive searched around and can find no information on this, so I was wondering if one of the Mitsu Guru's here could help out?

Its Continuously Variable Timing, aka MIVEC.
Your cam shaft cracked? Odd, maybe oil starvation?

No, my cams are fine, I was told the timing is off, so its causing a deeper "tick" behind my injectors. It almost sound like an engine knock.

???What shop is this? Take a vid, as the engine bay has numerous ticking sounds that are all completely normal. Might just be the lifters ticking away
If the timing chain was stretched the car has a warning system for that. If you installed aftermarket cams it is possible to install them out of sync (by a tooth or two) and they would still run, but not very well.

Ill take a video of it after work, and I have stock scams. The place is called Engine Rebuilders, and they said the can timing is off, but he may mean valve timing. This shop isn't a Mitsu place, so he may not know exactly what its called, but he said for sure its the Timing adjustment?

Wow, that's awful. Try and get a video posted then, I guess. Otherwise you could always take a road trip over to SSP
