I wanted to write a review with my thoughts on the exhaust that I have on my car, for those who are wondering which to go with. I have an Ultimate Racing turboback exhaust on the car (short downpipe, metallic high flow cat, midpipe with mini-muffler option)

I had this exhaust put on the car in small parts at a time due to money issues. I couldn't afford to get it all at once so I took my time and got one piece at a time.

First, I bought the Ultimate Racing "performance muffler" aka axle-back exhaust. This was mainly for sound and was done about a year ago. From what I remember, it sounded a little loud but not too aggressive.

Next, I went with the midpipe and had the mini-muffler added on, to help with quieting down the exhaust. From what I read around, a resonator was a must, and most people liked it with the mini-muffler. The conservative crowd went with the mini-muffler AND resonator, but I didn't want it toned down too much and again, money was an issue for me. I LOVED this setup. Exhaust sounded great and wasn't too loud at all. There was very little drone on highways cruising at around 65MPH. 70 and up was no problem.

Lastly, I found a used UR downpipe and a used metallic high flow cat here on evom, and jumped on them immediately because they were at great prices. I was a little concerned with the metallic high flow cat as opposed to the ceramic, but I said "screw it" and just went with it. My concerns were the CEL that about 50% of people got after installing, and the increase of volume.

I had both parts professionally installed today. My initial thoughts were "wow, this thing sounds amazing." The tone of the exhaust was great on the low end and mid range, at the top end it got pretty loud and sounded like any other exhaust. I initially didn't think volume was an issue, but after driving in the car all day, I am second-guessing myself. The tone of the exhaust is awesome but the volume is just a *little* much crusing ~75 on the highway.

So while the UR exhaust is awesome, if I had to do it all over again, I would have ordered the midpipe with the MM AND resonator.

 

Great review bossman!! I'm looking into getting a UR tbe with a mid-pipe resonator, but i'm debating whether to get the mini-muffler since I don't want it too quiet. Any chance you could post a vid or sound clip?

I'll try to get a video of the exhaust, but it's a bit hard to pick up how it sounds in person.

If you are going to go for the ceramic high flow cat, I'd say get at least the mini-muffler on the midpipe. If you are going with a straight test pipe or metallic high flow cat, go with the mini-muffler AND resonator on the midpipe.

 

I have the resonator only on the UR midpipe, I find it personally a little bit too loud, wish I had the MM addon. At low RPM's it sounds amazing but when you give it a little gas there is definitely attention from unwanted people around.
