HA HA thanks. There shouldn't be too much financially recovery needed. Like I said, I'm not poor. Even if it is expensive, unless it's over half the cost of the trans, I should be good lol. Thanks for the heads up though. Might make the wife happy to know that I could be saving a lot of money. I was just telling a friend though that the dealer I'm going to has a GSR on the lot that has only 3 miles on it and with my luck, I'll get talked into buying it lol

OK, I took it to the dealer and had the fluid exchange done. The fluid came out black. It does drive better now so I wanted to thank everyone for their help.

...and for others reading this post - i also previously explored the topic of a tranny swap and the conclusion was - it is not cost effective. It is feasible (since it is not swapping into a car that never offered it because the Evo does with mounts/pedals/linkages, etc.), but cost.
A used TC-SST is not that much (much less than the dealership/$10K number bandied about) and the donor parts car to do it would cost more...

It's not because I work for SSP (and that we specialize in DCT's) but we can fix most SST issues. As Rich said, 99.999% of the time new fluid/filter works wonders on these cars.
I've been running SSP Gold even before I started working there and change it once a year just because. I invested in the stainless reusable filter and clean that out everytime.
You are going backwards in terms of technology by doing a 5spd. And it's an extremely expensive swap to do. As someone mentioned, there are worst case used SST's around. I saw one on EvoXForums that had our 600clutch pack/upgraded DCT seals installed for $4000 if I'm not mistaken. I almost bought it just because lol

I've always been very interested in this swap as I've always wanted a true manual in my car. I love my car in every way, but that is the one thing I hope to be able to do one day. Why not get a GSR? I have an RA sportback and enjoy the utility it has to offer. I also have put a significant amount of work into the rest of the car. I hope someone paves the way and creates a DIY someday so others can follow.
