Help-Mega White Smoke
#17
Hmm...well nonetheless I'm rebuilding the head completely with full BC line (valves in and out, theta valve guides, springs, titanium retainers, BC 87mm head gasket, BC stage II 272spec cam, they are awesome and really saved the day for me). Full story and write up soon.
if its still not fixed after this massive $$$$ upgrade and something inside the turbo though, CBRD and Chad Block better step up.
On a positive side note, I'll be the first to cam a Rad Lite with full bolt-ons. Results to follow and safe 8.5k rev limiter without destroying head lol

While turbo could be the culprit, with the history of the 4B11, so far, I'd lean toward HG personally. The only thing that sways the equation is that the turbo has been removed, modified, and reinstalled. A quick cylinder leak-down test would give you a pretty solid answer, or at least turn you in the right direction.

I'm already changing everything valvetrain wise and the HG. Come spring 2.4L stroker going in with bigger turbo.
If its still smoking after this Chad Block and I will have a conversation.
I don't know what the issue is at the moment but soon to fid out. I'm most excited to see what the cam is going to add to the Rad Lite for future people taking this route.

Interesting...
I have a RAD Lite w/ full bolt ons & E85. 350WHP on VD....
I recently started having the same problem. No smoke driving or at WOT, but after idling for a bit, or stopping the car, waiting 30 min, and then starting warm again, i get some pretty good white smoke.
I was thinking HG, but so far haven't noticed any issues with oil.... so my next thought was turbo, which would explain why i have white exhaust, but no power issues or traces around motor (that I've seen).

Hmmmm.....I'll know once I do all the work. If I still have the white smoke, oh boy.
I just wrote to Chad to get involved in this thread in the event it's the Rad Lite failing (but don't want to jump the gun).

Still stock clutches? I have this spare Ra turbo that still needs to make its way over to CBRD... I might need to start following your upgrade route.. How many km's are you at right meow?

Right *meow* (lol) I'm at 30k. Stock clutches are good for 360/360 at the wheels. I actually know someone with 420whp on stock clutches and is doing fine.

one thing at a time guys-
we have installed quite a few of these turbos here- without issue- or we wouldnt be building them
I would do a leak down/compression test first- best way to do leak down is really to remove the cams and test- also-
If there would be a turbo issue- obviously we would stand behind the work!!
keep me posted-
cheers
