questions on increasing boost...

So i have a couple of questions and the first one is how much maximum boost can be ran on the stock turbo? I've read that a lot of people are running about 21 PSI.

And my second questions is after isntalling the boost pill and the GST map reflash, i know that does not push boost anywhere close to 21 PSI. So seeing as how the ECU is the boost controller for the RA, how does everyone increase their boost levels so high? aftermarket boost controller?

Thanks for the insight

The boost maps in the ECU are how we adjust boost. The boost pill map sets you to about 21.5 psi.

The GST reflash W/pill will put you around 21-23 psi. The tune will change the boost target in the ECU. You should read the GST basemap thread in engine/drivetrain. It has all of the answers.

Do you know this from logging results?

see the dip at 4000rpm.. is that because its overboosting and ecu bringning it down from overboosting.. should i just reduce the BWGDC?

Nope, that dip is perfectly normal for us. Don't try to "tune it out". The dip happens when the wastegate opens. You're not over-boosting.

With our TDO4, boost pill, 2-port boost controller, we get a bit more boost reduction when the wastegate opens than we'd like.

You should be able to log WGDCC (ie. Correction factor), and also "Boost Error". Those will show you exactly what is going on w.r.t. error correction. With the Base Map tune, what you'll see is WGDCC ramping UP fast to minimise the duration of that dip.

Some people tune it so the initial peak is a bit above where they want to be. You then see it more as a peak-then-flatline. When I reworked the Base Map boost control, I went for a peak as close to target as possible, then a quick correction back up to target using EC. So in your pic, it's peaking around 21.5psi around 3500rpm, dips, then upward-corrects back to around 21.5psi by 4500rpm.

Hope that makes sense.

Awesome - an answer to a question i had't got round to asking. So with what you're saying Rich a 3-port, with total control rather than the bleed of the pill can minimise or remove the dip entirely?

I have 3 port and that dip happens in 4th gear but not 3rd for me. I haven't tried to tune it out though.

Interesting.

I managed to reduce the duration of that dip on mine with larger upward "Target Boost Error Correction" values... but it's tricky to get right. Too much, and it can introduce some EC overshoot wobbles into the boost curve.

I haven't tuned my car myself. Someone else has tuned it. But yeah a lot of things happen in that 4th gear 2500-4500rpm range at different loads and I'm not too sure how to approach it yet.
