Smile Oil and general new owner question

Happy new Mitsubishi owner!! Just bought a 2011 Ralliart w/touring package, 23k miles on it. Loving the car! Traded in what the wife was driving - 2007 Subaru Impreza 2.5i w/ 100k miles on it. I currently own an 07 Subaru Legacy GT, so obv the wife wanted something to keep up on the mountain roads.

Test drove an 08 WRX, I was right up against the steering wheel to get the clutch to the floor and interior was so bare bones (basically like my wife's 2.5i, of course).

Looking through the forums and other Mitsu forums trying to figure out the oil thing. The Subaru (Legacy) community is big on oil, weights, brands, blah blah blah. I run full synth in my cars and I steer clear of the Mobil 1 due it's quick shear rate (5w30). Running Shell Rotella T6 5w40 in the legacy during the summer and Catrol Edge SPT 5w30 (Euro Car - made in Germany) during the winter.

Anyone running a 40 weight (I saw one person mention in the Oil poll)? Seems the turbo is a bit more hardy in these cars compared to the Subby's.

Also any oil consumption with these cars?

Lastly anything to keep an eye on? I do check the fluid levels and tires frequently, but is there anything that I should be checking on these cars in particular. Any preventative maintenance I can do to ward off future issues? Curious since this is the first Mitsu I've owned.

Thanks!!

I would run 5w or even 0w-40 if i was tracking the car. But it is generally colder up here so our cars need 5w-30. a 40 weight is a bit to thick at operating temperatures if your not tracking the car.

5w-30 is a good weight for the ralliarts. I use Mobil 1 and quaker state full synth in my car..or whatever is on sale. Most synts are fine for our cars.

Thanks again. I didn't see much in the way of oil burning/consumption threads, so figured the 30 weight would be just fine.

5W-30 synthetic for me. Mine sees track work.

Thanks to good old Mitsu cost-cutting on the RA, I have no engine oil cooler. When I've been tracking the car, I change my oil after 3300km.

If I haven't tracked it since last oil-change, I change it after 5000km.

Appreciate the input everyone.

No oil cooler, still track it and not burning, I like to hear that!

I'm not looking to track this car, but def a fun ride up and over the hills for the commute.

I buy mobile1 5w-30w at Walmart because I'm saving up all my $ for diaqueen sstf-1

A little off topic but one thing with this car , it's recommended to changed the sst fluid at 30k vs the recommended 60k. Your still under warranty so make sure you use the overpriced diaqueen sstf-1 when you do. ( i'm saving up for it as I'm about to hit the 30k mark soon myself)

My 2 cents, I steer clear of Mobil, that 30 weight will shear to 20 in no time on a decent drive/commute. I'll probably be running Castrol 0w30 Euro Car (Germany); wish they had 5w30 for summer.

Holy @$@# that tranny fluid is expensive!! Oh well, change every 30k not a HUGE issue, but ugh. I wish they'd buy me dinner before #@$#ing me in the ***.

Can I use this tranny fluid in my Legacy GT? Must good for that price. AHAHA
