To be honest kinda does...fml :/

It's a little different but it's also a different turbo. But same upward pitch and then same basic sound when I let off the gas. I'm taking it to a shop on Wednesday morning to see the what's up.

No shaft play... No idea what really causes it.

Lol...so took it in. No boost leaks and no shaft play and no other apparent issues they said. So I'm just gonna run with that for now. Have spare turbo I'm gonna upgrade and let sit in garage and if it starts crapping out will swap it asap...car seems to keep boost up and no performance problems so idk...could be an electrical component making extra noise? Water pump or something else.....

I've asked after this noise a few times now, and each time I've been told it's a just pretty typical "noisy turbo" thing.

Apparently caused by a small inconsistency in a blade, making an audible noise at lower spin speeds. At some point since it was manufactured (and fine-tuned to be silent out of the box), a tiny bit of a blade has changed during use.

Mine's been doing it since late 2010. I have several receipts for check-ups that say, "turbo noise normal".

It's not a death-rattle, and it's not something to unduly worry about.

Interesting thread. I've got a BBX Lite in my 2009 RA and ever since the turbo swap its had a REALLY strong siren sound. I've had mine checked for leaks also but to no avail.
Surely this isn't what its supposed to sound like? I should buy a red and blue flashing light to stick on the top of my car perhaps.

Here's a couple of examples.
