logged: MBC vs GM 3port ECU-Boost
Have a Evo 8 in currently that wanted to swap from a MBC to a GM 3port boost solenoid and use ecu-boost.
Still working on the tune and the boost curve obviously, but here are the differences so far, ecu-boost is solid line, MBC is dotted line:
Ecu-boost holds 2psi more up top (21.6psi vs 19.4psi) Still working on the boost curve, only using 84% duty cycle currently. Also notice Ecu-boost holds approx 2 psi more from 5500 rpm on. Once I get it all dialed in it should show goodness everywhere.
Evo 8 with Evo 9 turbo, cams, tbe, open air filter
Cheers.

Nice job!
I want to see the comparison between EBC and GM 3port also.
I am split between EBC or GM 3port now.
Only down side of ECU boost is that It might not be consistent between runs. ECU seems to put other variables to the equations like intake temp, baro, coolant temperature...etc.

Will you be able to get the boost at 3300-4300 RPM higher with some tuning?
Thanks for this info. I have been wondering how a MBC would compare with the ECU boost control on the same car.

But, I wouldn't mind seeing a write up as well.

Razorlab, very nice job. I'm still unsure which way to go to control boost on OKIX car. I just changed to the HD actuator, but still want to go to electronic control. As mentioned earlier, is it possible to get peak boost similar to the mbc and if so, what setup do you feel is the best? Also, is load based or boost based better?

The car had an electrical problem (unrelated to the GM) shortly after and needs that sorting before I finish the tune.
You really can't compare loads on different cars with different mods. The point here is that the MBC was doing what it was, and now the GM is doing what it does, with all the same mods. It is indeed a Hallman.
