Buschur's RS, first in the 9's on pump and nearly the 8's on race

What a GREAT freaking day. Some days you have bad days at the track, some days you have good days at the track and then some days you have GREAT FREAKING days. They are few and far between but sure seem to make it all worth while.

I had my car on the dyno last week to take another shot at running 9's on pump gas. I was encouraged to do this by VWJeff, Slorice and Spin2GST. The car had previously run a 10.02 at 141 mph on the Hoosier DOT street tires. This time around I decided I'd run the slicks to see if it wouldn't help get us where we wanted to be, the 9's.

I called my good friend Kevin Lawson up and asked if he'd meet me at the track today and see what we could do.

The car had BOTH sides of the tank completely drained of all the fuel and we put 10 gallons of Sunoco 94 in it last week. There was absolutely NO race fuel, octane boosters, nitrous or anything else used.

The first pass in the car the car bogged just a little, it was Kevin's first time on the slicks. The car ran a 10.15 at 144.49 mph. From the looks of the bog and the MPH I knew it had a 9 in it.

The very next pass the car ran a 9.721 at 144.81 mph. Sixty foot was a 1.51. Needless to say we were some happy dudes. Kevin wanted to get right on to the next step, which was race gas but we all decided it was best to back up the pump gas run so there was no doubts. Peak boost was 31 psi.

3rd pass on pump gas was a 9.780 at 143.22. The peak boost on this run was
29, I turned it down from the pass before.

Pump gas record of first in the 9's, done. As Tom says, Game-Set-Match.

Next up was to run the car on the race gas. I was hoping the car would run 9.4's at 155 this year, it did that on the Hoosier DOT streets with Trent in the car early in the year.

Now it was time to see if we could, maybe-just maybe, run a 9.2X with the car, a very hefty goal given the street ability of the car, the weight, the interior, full exhaust blah blah blah. You know a STREET car, no a make believe gutted car for the day to just set a record. I know, it had slicks on it, hopefully most of you can get my point.

First pass, the car comes out OK, 1.54 sixty foot, 9.42 at 151 mph. OK, pretty good, first run on race gas and it is as quick as ever.

2nd run, Trent came out and we started brainstorming on the suspension. A few quick adjustments were made and Kevin goes up for the next pass. We have it on video but the printer did not print a slip, 9.33 at 151 mph again.

3nd run, a few more adjustments to the suspension and the car runs a 9.32 at 152.64.

4th run, a few more suspension adjustments and I start looking at the tune and discussing the two step with Kevin. The track was going away by this time as it was over 4 hours since it saw any attention. We took up a collection and paid the track to spray it up to the 1/8th mile. This was the winning ticket. Sixty foot time was a 1.42, 9.147 at 155.11. Nice.

5th run, changes again. I started to turn the boost up. We had been running 36-38 psi up to this point on the race gas. I wanted to work up to 40 psi. Sixty foot on the next run was the best ever, 1.402! The car runs a 9.111 at 154.76 mph. Outfknstanding!

6th run, few very small changes. Now this is crazy, the track was starting to get a little slippery again, sixty foot was 1.47 and the car runs a 9.25 at 153.88. We all look at each other disapointed! hahaha A 9.25 and we were disapointed, oh the irony.

7th run and final pass was a 1.46 sixty foot and the car clicks off another 9.18 at 154.78 mph.

Overview. 9.72 and 9.78 on straight pump gas at 144 mph.

9.11, 9.14, 9.18, 9.25, 9.32, 9.33 on race gas at 155 mph.

It is just simply freaking amazing to me how fast this car is. Rediculously close to the 8 second time barrier, which I'd have never-ever thought possible in a car you can truly jump in and drive to work or whatever. It's just mind boggling to me.

I have some people to thank of course.

Kevin Lawson for a hell of a job driving it. Daniel and Steve for performing work on it when needed, luckily it isn't very often. Trent for the help today and team work getting the car to work right on these tires. Jim Kitasaki for the insight to build a real intake manifold for the car, this car has a production Wilson V2 on it with our 65 mm throttle body!

Thanks to Jarrod for the kick *** video he is working on right now, should be done tonight or tomorrow. I will post it here in this first post when it is.

Here is the video: http://videos.streetfire.net/video/B...-9s_183131.htm

It was a great day, unbelievable day.

Thanks for reading.

This just proves what team work and setting a goal can accomplish. The traction and track prep are sooooo important for record times. Congratulations BIG time to all of you and your efforts. There's not a question in my mind that you all have an 8 second pass in a STREET DRIVEN EVO. Next stop.....8's.
By the way, DB, I knew when I talked to you at the track, the day must have been outfreeaking-standing, You weren't nearly as stressed as I thought you would be. Big Day at Camp Buschur.
