Cranking issues...
I know what your thinking, no it's NOT another "my car takes to long to crank" thread. It's actually taking FOREVER to crank, as in, it turn over, but won't start.
I'll try not to drone on forever, but I'm at my wits end with this.
Background:
Had a built motor, bad things happened. Came across a stock Evo IV motor for cheap, some other goodies, like an intake manifold and wiring harness as well. Car won't start. Wiring harness is NOT the problem, everything checked out.
I tried out my previous injector setup (FIC 1650'a) and threw my old map on, and the car is not happy, to be honest, I don't think it was ever dialed in, since I'd only had the 1650's for a few weeks before the car went down.
so, I tried out the stock injectors on the map AEM provided map, same thing. (yeah, I know it's crap but it's a start)
It just tuuuuuuuuuurns and turns, and occasionally farts and pops, as well as doing something that I can only describe that it sounds like it's trying to throw the crank backwards.
So, I've confirmed that I DO have spark with a tester, and boy oh boy I've got fuel cause you can really smell it. I've jacked with the fuel table, but it really doesn't seem to change the duty cycle much. I'm not sure what has the biggest effect on it besides the throttle map in the start template.
I can throw a decent tune at a car once it's going, but fella's I've gotta admit some of the inner workings are still magic to me. I get the concept behind the tooth count and rising/trailing edge, yadda yadda... but getting it to work together, not so much.
I'm getting stat sync and I don't really know what else to do. I've checked the CAS by inverting the trigger, and it STILL gets stat sync, but does not crank.
Most of the sensors I'm using came from the VIII, but IIRC I used the CAS sensor from the VIII on the trigger wheel from the IV. Is there some minute difference between the two that is killing it?
I know I need to provide logs to help this out, but I need to know what you guys want to see without completely inundating you with unnecessary data. Hell I'll get video of it so you can hear what it's doing if that'd help.
Dammitsomuch I want this car to run, and this is the only thing stopping it. Sorry if this came out rambling and disjointed, but thanks for any help guys.

Your base ignition timing might be way off. If it is way to advanced it will make the car sounds like it it trying to turn the crank the wrong way, sort of like a starter getting suck kind of a sound.
Get your base ignition timing set correctly, then after that add more fuel to get the car to fire up.
If those does not work, post the resutls of those things.

You can also set the base igniton timing while cranking the car. You will need to people and a fully charged battery. Just hook everything up like in the videos, and have the ems set on corse and just crank the car and see where the timing is. If the spot never lines up you are way off, and just keep hitting retard until you see it show up.
You sould also get some whiteout and mark the crank pully, and the timing belt cover. Set your timing to 0 so your timing light does not matter.

Boz, you're my hero man!!! I went into the screen and just started dialing back the timing until it fired up. Works like a champ.
