Lots of cranking before starting V1, Speed Density

It takes a solid 6-12 cranks to start my engine. When it's cold, it's even worse. How can I fix this? Is this a common thing for V1 + SD? Changed my MAP sensor a week ago, didn't really help.

It's normal if you have a stock trigger disc.

There's a sticky in this forum: https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ae...-evo-viii.html That should help a little.

If it's still taking too long in your opinion, the next step is to replace the stock trigger disc with: http://www.triggerdisc.com/evo12.htm

I should add that a balance shaft delete is required to use the 12 tooth disc.

Went into AEM and the 500ms and sync early were already done.

What else could cause the issue? Low fuel pressure? Clogged injector?

The trigger disc.

You have 2 options. The 12 tooth disc, or live with it as is.

*Everything I've said in this thread is predicated on the fact that your car starts normally on a stock ECU. If that is not the case, you may have other issues.

As already stated on Series 1 a long crank period is totally normal and the only fix is a 12 tooth trigger disc. With that modification the car will start nearly instantly after you dial in the tune. For reference I ran a Series 1 for MANY years with no adverse effect or wear on the starter, in fact that car to my knowledge still has the original OEM starter in the car.

In Series 2, AEM implemented a batch fire scenario specific to the Evo that does an OEM like startup and the trigger disc is no longer necessary. You can still run one as I have tuned an Evo with it that moved from Series 1 to Series 2. It doesn't start faster than the stock crank disc but the 12 tooth does provide better timing resolution/accuracy.

Go to initial crank pulse in the engine start table and increase the fuel at the lower and upper temps. Also go to the start extra vs. temp table and increase the whole chart by 5-10%. Do a hot start, turn the coils off and check for fuel on plugs if they are wet.
