Eric your idea for the battery and location matches mine- you could quite easily take the cooling route I discussed with you and remove your oil cooler too.

Are you guard/fender ideas similar to what Chad has done for me and on his T/A car?

This thread is on a much higher level than any other thread I've seen.

Man I remember this fabrication skills from Honda-Tech.

Not yet. I know they suck when I'm on track, but I like them soo much that I'll have a hard time parting ways with them even though they're super heavy. Maybe when I get some extra cash I'll pickup a Racetech seat for it, but for the time being I'll slop around inside the car like always.

justincase,
I don't know what chad did for fender well stuff on your car or on his T/A car. do you have a link to show me what you're talking about? I could relocate the oil cooler, but I just wasted several cubic hours of time mounting the oil cooler where I did. I might be able to mount it waaay back in the car, but that might be a boatload of extra oil capacity that I don't need.

Lexus01IS,
Yes it's been a while since I've posted on Honda-tech. Maybe I'll come back there and have some fun. For the time being I spend too much time on Evom, to find another forum to frequent!

Thanks zertek2k!

I'm a bit frustrated with the FMM right now. I'm going to give it a break and relax this weekend. The FMM is going well, it's just not EXACTLY how I planned it. Which makes me want to do it again... but I don't want to buy the materials and do it again. I want to drive my car. So I'll be sure to post up the pictures that I've taken along the way.

Like this Eric. I have to keep stock fenders for Clubsprint catergory at WTAC and ADR road rules means no carbon or glass fenders.

Chad's ideas were this, little bit more modified from the ones on his T/A car.

As to removing yes removing the oil cooler as Andrew Brilliant has suggested and I am doing on my car, delete the air oil cooler, remove heater box insert laminova heat exchanger in heater box's place cool oil increase aero.

there's so much awesome in this thread its ridiculous. how did you measure the turbine for modeling? its a real complex shape and i can't imagine calipers working real well. is it a guesstimate or did you use a machine?

Yeah he does a similar to Evo Dave mod. welds on an extension onto the Fender. Mine will actually use 2 Evo fenders and they will be welded together... should allow for an 11.5" wheel up front for a 315/30/18! yay. I'll probably stick with the 295 R888 for now on the 10.5 and be happy.

Very very very cool idea for the heater core. that will be on next winter's project list. very cool.

ACRucrazy!
Long time no see. I still have a 1st gen. It needs 3 wheel bearings, the sunroof fixed, and a passenger side door lock switch. I'll be putting in a new clutch, rebuilding the gear box with an OBX diff, decking the head .040", porting the head, and putting on a .023" cometic head gasket. Hoping for 190whp NA. I figure I'll keep it NA for the time being and save me some money. Thanks for the compliments. I ran across some old pictures of my fab work from the first few months I was doing it... lol I've definitely come a long way. I'll be making some neon parts again here pretty soon. I figured I'd make a DOHC, SOHC, and SOHC Magnum turbo manifold... I don't know that there are any nice sohc manifolds out there and if I made 1... I figure that I could find someone who would be interested.

Mario101,
I used calipers. I measured lots and lots of reference geometry, but in the end the turbine wheel is not exact, but pretty close. I made a grid on the wheel... distance in from the tip and distance from the Superback...and took measurements where the wheel was in reference. Yes it took a while. But it was completely modeled. I could've used a Leica laser metrology tracker to do it, but meh.

May 30th Update

I haven't worked on the car since last Friday. I had a great weekend with my wife and family and got back to it today at around 1PM. After a Dentist apt cleaning which ended up costing me 150 bucks I got to work on the car again.

What a motor mount looks like before it's made.

Test fitting.. I'll be adding some additional cross supports for the aluminum mount. I've test fit this part maybe 20 times. I'm through looking at it. Now comes the LICP...which is being held up by the radiator. I need to make sure the LICP clears the Radiator, but I don't know what kind of space it will be occupying, so I need to wait so that I can fit the LICP the best through this tight cramped space. The mount will also get some corners rounded and some extra material removed to help it be more low profile.

UPPER RADIATOR HOSE
You may have noticed the hose floating around in the engine bay. I did some thinking and dropped some extra money on a Burn Stainless aluminum u-bend so I can weld an upper radiator tube with hose on each end. I might use a 45 on each end so i can use less tube... who knows. I'll cross that bridge when I get there. For now...I have the tubing!

BATTERY KILL/ RELOCATE

I figured out where I'm going to put the solid state kill switch unit from T1. The E85 sensor and it would like to occupy the same space. So I basically did that. Once I get through some wiring this will look a lot more civilized. For now it looks terrible. Makes me go all OCD and freak out when I look at it. This will wire very easily into the OEM wiring connectors and give me a good location to route into the fender and down the driver's side of the cabin to the trunk.

I have determined that my full blown double pumper is leaking.... after jacking the car up...fuel leaked or should I say POURED out the top of the tank. So it's not sealing. Time to take it apart again and make it more compact. I hate this thing. Picture is worth a thousand words.

Here we have the .375'' X .035" Stainless Tubing for the ACD hardlines. I'll use a tube and nut AN to plumb that. You'll see some of the required AN unions in a few pictures.
Also here is the 1/8" Ti rod I'll be using for spring tabs to hold the exhaust together. Rather than using flanges I'll use a slip connector with spring tangs. Burns Stainless style.
Also here is the Ti tubing for the hangers. I went with tube and not SOLID Ti, for the obvious reasons. It's a helluva lot lighter and cheaper too!

Here's some wine my Grandfather gave my wife and I when we were down visiting this weekend. He made it... with the grapes that he grew. Pretty badass! He's been making wine and growing grapes since 1969. Label is Boo's Brothers. My grandma's name is Betty "Boo" ... thus Boo's brothers. The guys on the label are my Grandpa's good friends and help with Harvest and of course the consumption! Good stuff!

Nice updates sir, I like the front motor mount bracket. I wonder how well it is going to hold up being aluminum. Did you weigh it compared to the stocker?

Looking more awesome by the day. Question on the trunk mounted battery - don't some of the racing sanctioning bodies (NHRA, etc.) require that trunk mounted batteries be in an enclosure?

Nice update, I was wondering if you could do a small segment/update on vacuum lines and preventive measures for boost leaks; what to zip tie, what lines to replace (hard lines), what size lines to use etc? I know in the honda world vacuum distribution blocks are popular, but I haven't seen them used much on an evo. Any tips, advise, and information is appreciated..

I love following this build thread, and Im hoping to see you drive it to it's full potential! The car isn't even moving yet, and it's already pretty awesome.

Loving this thread! I have the same problem with my Full Blown double pumper leaking. What exactly did you do to fix that problem?
