Crazyeyes: Where you at Julio Vargas around 3pm to 4pm last Saturday? I had a notion that I saw your red Evo. I was following behind until I turned right to Valle Verde. I came from Autoplus, got the car dynoed. If that was you, seems like you were late for something hahaha

Want to share. I was with Nob Taniguchi and other Japanese people from HKS when he was here and I was sharing to them my plans for my GTR. I told them I want to bring the power up but not more than 600whp. I want to keep it very driveable in the streets to keep up with GT2s and FGTs here, at the same time, to be able to track it well at BRC.

They said 600whp for the GTR is very good. HKS and other Japanese brands can develop parts for the GTR in excess of 1000hp very easily, but they prefer not to. With their present resources and access to Nismo and the GTR assembly line, they can easily do that and they would have done it way back even before it came out in the USA.

Reason why they opt not is because they want to preserve the integrity of the GTR being a high powered everyday car. They want to develop parts to keep a balance of the car being street legal, high performance, but very durable.

One was saying that they are actually quite upset with some aftermarket tuners in the USA, as they are just turning and promoting the GTR as a drag car thatr focuses more on HP than on overall performance. He was going "In America, all they want is horsepower, horsepower and horsepower. Nothing about balance or street legality and driveability. In Japan, we want perfect balance. Horsepower is just icing in the cake. It adds flavor but does not make the cake the best right away."

They say the GTR is perfect as it is, but the Japanese aftermarket manufacturers just decided to make HP parts as to compliment other parts like light weight parts, braking system, and suspension parts, the goal to create a perfect street monster. The GTR is not meant to just go straight. Acceleration is vital to them, but it is not only what the GTR is made for.

He also told me that how they wish the US aftermarket industry "moves up" to this mentallity in parts and tuning. HP is kids stuff according to them. Its high time we all get mature in the tuning world, especially for these Japanese highly computerized high performance cars. That is why the Japanese are more aggressive in promoting their parts in the US market, as not to kill the Japanese tuning metallity of a perfectly balance car with the right aftermarket parts.

Had a great talk with these Japanese guys! You will really learn a lot from them.

Not me. I was at UCC Temple Drive during that time haha. Must be my car's twin. I saw an evo ix that looks exactly like mine at Emperor. Maybe the one you saw was headed there.

I was supposed to go to Autoplus that afternoon pero wala raw si pacho e...

Nice story about the JDM vs USDM scene. I like the icing on the cake analogy

BTW there will be a Lan Evo meet tomorrow 7PM at The Fort. Drop by with godzilla if you can

I hope I can. This weekend will be a drunken weekend as tonight I have 2 christmas parties to attend and tomorrow will be another two. Only reason why I am in Manila.

The Japanese tuning philosophy is really far from the US. Horsepower is just part of it, its just 20% of the whole thing to them.

Horsepower = 20%
Lightweight = 20%
Stopping power = 20%
Aerodynamics = 20%
Traction and grip = 20%

All these should contribute to a perfectly balanced high performance car. In the US, I noticed its 50% horsepower and the rest are just small chunks.

You should talk to these Japanese people. You will really be amazed with them. You will learn a lot too!

Thought you were the one I was following at J Vargas. wahaha!
