Corolla ascent verses lancer VRX
hello to all you out there
im currently looking for a new car and after some number crunching i figured that i would not be able to afford insurance for a turbo hence i have to go the NA way
keeping fuel economy in to mind i am looking for a car under 2litres
i have been looking around and its come down to either a lancer vrx or a corolla ascent
i love the look of the lancer vrx over the corolla but powerwise wise the corolla ascent outshines by a few kilowatts due to the vvti and dohc configuration
Is there any lancer models out there stock that can match the 100kw produced by the corolla ascent or can anyone convince me to get a vrx in stead of a corolla

kilowatts is nice to talk about, but the only real test is the drive. I have a lancer MR coupe and its only 87kw or whatever but she flys!! It all comes down to power/weight ratio. The corolla has more power but maybe its as heavy as a tank?
The best advice i can give ya is try em all. test drive as many cars as you can, go to all the dealerships, look interested, test the car, then run away
VVTI twin cam on the corolla would probably give it more fuel economy though, but it comes down to personal choice really. With a bit of cash u can do that to the lancer, but yeah $$$
hope you join the lancer world soon

if it only comes down to a few kilowatts then i would go for the vrx. I would only choose the corolla if i wre going for power but even then i wouldnt but one. i agree with dazaa in the only way to really know is to test drive. also it comes down to how much money you are willing to spend.
good luck with your purchase and i hope you choose correctly

hey dudes cheers for all your input
i will test drive the vrx when i have time and see what i like best lol
i compared the weight of the ascent compared to the vrx and it is slightly less overall so the ascent definately wins in the power to weight ratio or i might be wrong here......
but the vrx looks so much better lol
has anyone modded a vrx up yet??? even some simple pulse tuning? would be interested to see the results

Those Corolla engines buzz through the steering wheel very annoyingly above 4000rpm, when I test drove them and a 1.8 Lancer I went for the Lancer. Amazingly the Lancer of 88Kw is no slower on the quartermile than the 100Kw Corolla, so maybe you would be better off with the Lancer especially since it is 2 liter. For mods later on there is no competition, its game set and match to the Lancer with everything you could imagine available in the power department
