Question Engine Conversion for my Mirage...

Hey all. I've got a '99 Mirage wich rocks except the engine is unfortunately crap (1.5 SOHC).

So i've been playing with the idea of increasing the car's performace although the engine cant really handle any big mods so i've been thinking aboout an engine conversion!

Being from Perth, i've spoken to the guys at RPW and i for the costs involved, a MIVEC conversion aint worth it. I've done some research, although i'm not really knowledgeable when it comes to cars, and i'm thinking about getting a 4G93 1.8 DOHC(non-turbo), which seems like a much better platform to build upon than the damn 1.5...
I know its the engine found in the current Proton Satria's so it shouldnt be that hard to find and shouldnt be too expensive.
Then i could make my Mirage one zippy naturally aspirated car with some mods or go turbo- basic RPW stage 1 kit churns out about 160Kw since the Proton engine is the same as the classic Mitsubishi engine, just with the turbo component removed.

Is my plan flawed or what else can i do?

For the CE model, the Proton Satria faces the wrong way on the T-belt orientation. So, that's out of the Q.

Try looking at the CG model, Cedia platform or the US lancer's 2.0 4g94. It's the most cost effective swap. 130 TQ for a lightweight car is very fun to drive!

Always a hard question, so take your time. As Bahamut stated the Proton engine will not fit unfortunately as the engine is 180 degrees in the opposite direction. Think of Protons as CC Lancers not CE. I feel you have to determine what exactly you want to achieve with your car, then you can start working towards that. The 4G93 SOHC is a relatively cheap engine to pick up and drop in, but at the end of the day is it worth it, you will be going from 69kw to 86kw, yes a better base, but then you will have to modify that to get anywhere. Every time you do something it is costing you money. I know this is probably not what you want to do, but why dont you sell you Mirage and buy a CE coupe (as they are about the same as a Mirage anyway, but this time get one with the 1.8L in it. I think you would find it will only cost you the change over fees if you are smart about it. Anyway food for thought.

Well, you can take a gander at these two links.

http://editorial.carsales.com.au/mel...256D8800059EAF

Aussie Lancer CG and CH models.

Here's a US mirage with the 4g94.

I don't know if you want to take a look at the Lancer CH - the Ralliart edition. It has a 4g64 MIVEC. T-belt faces the same way as the CE, and it's in the US Outlander SUV (sharing the CG chassis).

In aussie, the mirage is the hatchback, right? Mitsu markets their models differently around the world.

The second link has a 4g94 from the CG/CH lancer. He gave out some good detail. It's doesn't look too hard, just need to use CG/CH sensors and wire harness.

I just looked at Mitsu Aussie. They don't have the ralliart Lancer over there.

Here are some US specs.

Also, try to look at the Outlander with the normal 4g64. Visit the dealership to gander at the motor. For the best part, the Outlander uses same chassis as the CG/CH lancer. Since you have the smaller motor, I'm a bit scared on the axles.

Do it properly, it might cost just under 4 grand. Half-**** it, it'll hit in the low 2 grand marker.

The CG's 2.0L route will probably cost a little over 1 grand for the swap. Besides, it has a natural resale value. Tc it, resale value might not be as you want.

IF you want something fast do a 4g63 Engine SWAP. There is a guy in the US with a porsche and a EVO 4g63 motor.

Make sure you know what turbo your going to use. The turbo determines many of your parts!

Why dont you get a DOHC conversion for your 4G15 from RPW in perth?....That's what I did and it rocks, 30% power increase, huge rev range and lots of fun!!
