*review*AMS motor mounts
hello all and thank you for reading.
first off, thank you AMS for putting these out to the market for some of us to try out. very affordable, well made, and another great product from AMS.
okay, on to the install. pretty straight forward. cam side was done in 20 minutes with hand tools. even removing the old bushing with a ballpeen hammer and chisel. came out pretty easy, new bushing installed and put back in. nicely fit.
second, the tranny mount is a blast. ahhaahh!!!
remove stock airbox(2 min)
remove battery (2 min)
remove battery box(3 min)
remove underpanel(7 min)
support tranny with jack(3 min)
remove lower engine support(5 min)
remove 4 nuts on tranny mount(3 min)
remove nut and bolt from frame to tranny mount (3 min)
lower tranny and remove mount (2 min)
okay now that your done cursing-on to getting the darned bushing out of the tranny mount. welp, after several things that may have occured:
one smashed hand
metal sliver under fingernail
bushing in mount doesnt want to come out right
chisel slips so hand smashes into mount that is in vise followed by the ballpeen smashing hand-again
several curse words
10 min break to ice hand
several more curse words
back to chiseling out the bushing
mount is slipping out of vise
piece of the bushing metal ricochets under safety glasses and smacks you in eye
another session of curse words
another 10 min frustration break
back to smacking out the bushing
it finally starts to come out
wallah...its out.
put new bushing in(30 sec)
reverse process for installation -YOUR DONE!!
okay, now for the in car review.
driving impressions:
PLEASE NOTE: I ALSO HAVE THE POWERFLEX LOWER FRONT MOUNT INSTALLED. vibration is apparent with the mounts. that is to be expected with such urethane mounts. it is the same with these mounts as if it were just the lower front mount. you can feel the vibrations of the camshafts idle in the car through the steering wheel. during take off the vibrations are minimal after about 1200 rpm. you dont notice that they are in the car.
my 1-2 shift and 3-4 shift are GREATLY improved. major difference in shifting engagement. car launched hard with mounts versus just the front mount only. the front is a good improvement, however, if one were to get the bushings-get them all. i dont really see the need for a rear mount if you can do these three-front, cam side, and tranny side.
overall impression- once my hand stopped hurting from getting smacked twice by the big ballpeen hammer, all is good in the neighborhood.
soooo, to break it down-
PROS:
better shifting
excellent fit
excellent finish
less engine movement=more power to ground
very reasonably priced
its AMS...nuff said
CONS:
smashed hand
smashed hand again
slightly more vibration
they are bright red instead of the stealthy black(less for the police to look for)
time to remove the tranny side mount and bushing(1.25 hrs)
you will curse alot
another Angel just got their wings cause AMS made ANOTHER bad a$$ product. get them bushings. you wont be dissappointed.

your welcome Eric. it was just a fun day. i had just finished up doing a timing belt, balance shaft belt, water pump, and accessory belts on a 2g gsx when i started to put these in. my hands were tired from the first install, and then to pound out these mounts....ughhh...

perhaps in the future if you decide to offer in the pre pressed mounts, you could offer a small core charge to minimize customer costs. kind of like a trade in program. you would likely not have to buy the mounts because you would already have them instock and already pressed in. would be less down time for the customer.
