If you have by chance disassembled any stroker engines that have been taken repeated trips to 8000+ rpm and have accumulated reasonable mileage (e.g. >15,000 or so), I'd be very curious to know about the condition/finish of the bearing and piston friction surfaces.
FWIW, I recall seeing disappointing results with the Piper Rally cams in an independently conducted test a year or so ago vs. HKS 272 with a GT35R equipped EVO and reasonably good tuning. The reason(s) why are not evident in the specs. If I may ask, which cam set is it that you mentioned that made slightly more peak power than the JUN 272s, but did not perform as well elsewhere?

1) i would go with the HKS Kansai intake manifold with the nissan Q45 90mm TB option. tied with JUN for flowing the most air on an evo (but 1/2 the price)& works exceptionally well with the Cosworth head.
2) ditch the AEM & roll with MoTeC-enuff said
3) yank those 272 cams & get the Piper Drag Race 290's (u will need their valve springs also as they have 12mm of lift)
i wish u guys the best of luck. AMS is slowly becoming the U.S. equivalent of Norris Designs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

nice suggestions and i would go for them too. except the JUN camshaft kit has really proven additional HP. Motec is the good though it is really expensive, thats why Im happy with the Vpro.
(just check my mods too in my sig. pm me for questions if u got some)
