Cool Update #4

The word for the day was "Pressure", no not the pressure to succeed, more like the kind of pressure you find in tires After 3 different pieces of advice from 3 different Hoosier guys we decided to run cold starting pressures 31 front and 35 rear with the new A compounds. This is really only one pound more than we normally run with the Rs. So Marty went out and appeared very fast until the stopwatch said differently. A fast lap of 1:58.9 was the result. Coming off the track after a cool down lap his tire pressures had sky rocketed to between 46-49psi, which is way to high. The combination of unknown tires a new suspension and very cold temps threw us for a loop. The final starting grid hasn't been posted just yet but somewhere in the 20's is our guess.

Plans for tomorrow include a lot of tire selection discussion, As or Rs and then what pressures. Marty does have a 10 min warm up on Sat morning so that will give us a chance to get them setup right. He's currently leaning towards the known Rs with plans to move forward as tires on the other cars start to fade. Saturday should be a good show and we will be watching the preview tomorrow as some of the other classes bang it out. I'll let you know how things look from the top of the RV

note: I can't believe this is not a more popular thread with the road racing crowd.

Dave,
Marty and the car have 1:56s or better in them, but we started out way behind the curve changing things like suspension and tires way late in the game and then the weather ruined our planned sorting time. We've learned a lot for next year and will be sure to "practice" throughout the season with plans of running totally sorted Evos here next year. The race isn't over yet and I wouldn't be at all surprised to see Marty work his way up through the field provided we get the setup reasonably close.

Yea, Im pretty dissapointed to say the least in the qual session today. I should of just stayed with the tires I know and not try a new compound with only one real qual day after all the craziness this week. Live and learn!! My car is running great and the new suspension feels awesome. It will still be a great time trying to run down the field.

Hey Eric, My race will be at 1:30 central time on Saturday and it will be televised on Speed but not until around the first of December, I will post exactly when once I find out. We will be down at turn one watching a few races especially T-3 and see how they deal with the narrowing straight and sharp turn one and two. This is where the bulk of the carnage will happen. Goal will be to gain as many positions on the start as possible while avoiding contact; Ill need a complete car if I plan on running down the field. BTW, Ill post in-car-video some time next week so you can see it long before Speed.

Marty

Eric
Weve been watching the races today down at turn 1 and 2 wow, lots of carnage in the SSC race!! Basically, the front straight goes from room for 4 wide to 2 wide over a blind crest to a 90 degee right hander followed by a 90 degree left hander. Eric you got any spare body parts laying around the shop? The more you have, the more aggressive Ill be!! T3 will be interesting to watch later tonight to see how the drivers adjust for turn 1 knowing how the corner looks during a crazy *** start.

Cool Update #5

Today was pretty much a down day spent in preparation for tomorrows race. Marty and I watched several races from turn 1, which is where everyone tries to jump towards the lead...not to mention that the front straight leading to it narrows just like a funnel into this turn. The first race we watched was SSC, which are pretty much stock street cars with safety modifications and race tires. They barreled into the first turn 3 or so wide, unfortunately for John Heinracy (big name pro driver) and a few others the carnage ensued. When the smoke cleared several cars were missing their front bumpers and plenty of positions. Some of the classes were uneventful, but others were more similar to SSC. We are hopeful that the T2'ers are gentlemen racers....but who are we kidding

The car is ready and so is Marty so all that is left is to do it! 1:30PM Central watch the Live updates to see it unfold.

Warm up session went well, trying to work on my lines one last time I picked up a full second. We've been working on strategy with a few of the other drivers and it seems like everyone is going to keep out of trouble on that first turn, lets hope it is so. I "think" by the time I get to turn one the field will be pretty darn slow with all the bunching up that will occur. Im not exactly sure where I am starting yet as it appears a couple of the cars in front of me will not be in the race, one for sure will be the Sirota Subie, he did not make the trip and he had that guy Butts drive it for him for a qual. Should be an awesome day

Just watched it via the live timing thing. Nice run from 22 to 15th. +7 is nothing to sneeze at. Subie 1/2 with Will Turner in 3rd.

Highest finishing evos were Ziegler in 7th and Santos in 9th.

Great job by all the evos but the subies have factory support. If Will turner and his pro shop couldn't beat them that says alot.

Scoring shows Marty in 14th (+8 positions).

Good job CJ/Marty!
