GSC Stage 1 Cam Test...... REAL RESULTS

There have been so many dyno sheets floating around regarding the different EVO IX cams on the market. We took it upon ourselves to perform a no bull$hit test. Here we go

Test Car - 2006 EVO IX SE

Modifications:
AMS Turbo Back Exhuast
AMS Front Mount IC
AMS Lower IC Pipe
AMS MBC
AMS ECU Flash
Blitz Drop In Filter
and
GSC Stage 1 cams for the EVO IX

Boost: 23 Spike Tapering to 18 Near redline
Fuel: 93 Octane good ol pump Gas
Dyno: Dynojet 424X
Correction Factor: SAE with smoothing at 3

NO OTHER VARIABLES WERE CHANGED FOR THIS TEST. THE ONLY MODIFICATION CHANGED WAS STOCK CAMS TO THE GSC STAGE 1. The correction factor was the same, the car was healthy at the get go. This is a TRUE test.

Now at first glance it looks like the cams are pretty decent. Take a closer look at the midrange. This is a great Stock Turbo cam. Picking up over 25ft lbs and 23 Hp in the mid range. All this gain is also had with ZERO LOSS. Spool time is the same. Idle is perfect.

I was sceptical of these cams at first after seeing how well the stock cams perform but I was wrong. For anyone looking to pick up a GREAT stock turbo cam set, this might be your bumpstick.

I am still awaiting a return call from Cosworth to test their cam for those wondering. Im sure in the not too distant future I will have some results from them as well.

Eric,

Any way of posting the AFR's from the dyno, and have you had a chance to drive this car? If so, would you say the initial pull is at all comparable to a 50 trim car because I am amazed at the amount of torque the IX's are putting out with relatively few mods.

Thanks much.

At that HP for this dyno, it should trap at 112-113 mph.

I trapped higher than that with an Turboback and a flash as many others have. I would hope with cams it would trap higher than that. Those numbers look like the ones from the test of the old 280/272 combo what differences do you see in the cams.

After seeing this real and unbiased test. This mod does not look like its worth 1k bucks. Maybe for those who are diehard racers. Maybe I was expecting too much from them. Don't see any difference between them and the old 280s.

Im gritting my teeth here at dyno number comparison argument, I feel like im beating a dead horse.

Stock EVO IX's on our dyno usually put down about 255-260. That is a 75- 80 WHP gain from just bolt ons.... I call that pretty profound. Im sure we can play with the dyno and show a much high number, but WHY! they would not be real results.

please do NOT compare these numbers to cars on other dynos. Our dyno is set up to read real WHP Numbers. I know that there are a slew of others out there that will post numbers in the 360 plus with the same mods or less. Take it to the track. Trap speeds do not lie

This particular car should trap somwhere in the 113-115 area, based on previous cars to see our dyno. Who knows maybe higher. Its winter here in Chicago so it will have to wait for the spring.

These cams are alot different from the Previous GSC Set. the midrange is worlds better. Improving on the stock EVO IX cam set is hard, but the graph doesnt lie. Its picking up HP everywhere.

Here you can see the Previous GSC 280/272 Mapped Against the new stage 1's the mid rage is very different. The car feels completely Different.

I can care less about what they peak at or the numbers in comparison to other dynos. What I'm saying is that I was expecting a miracle increase of power and torque from spool up to read line. My expectations were solely based on GSCs description of the cam's wicked improvement over the stock IX's. Thankyou for the fair test. I wish every vendor could be like AMS.

I just reread the first post. There was no retune after they were installed? Or was that inadvertently left out? Thanks.
