AMS project 07 STI Small bolt ons, HUGE GAINS!

Last night Chris and Martin over here at AMS were finally able to get my 07 on the dyno for some testing. The car had made some decent power in stock form but we really wanted to see what our new bolt ons did and how well it would react to a good AMS Tune. The results were GREAT!

The car in stock form made a peak of 252 WHP and 266 Ft/lbs of torque. About on par with a stock EVO IX here.

We then added our stage package which consists of a Vibrant Catback and Turbo XS downpipe along with an AEM Cold Air intake.

Lastly I threw on the vibrant tubular Exhuast manifold.

The gains were REMARKABLE. Peak numbers were 320 WHP and 357 ft/lbs of torque with an astonishing 100+ ft/lbs of Torque gained at the heart of the power band! She also picked up over 80 whp right in the middle of the powerband!

Vehicle: 2007 Subaru Sti
Boost: Spiking to 21 and tapering off quickly after
A/F: Low 11's

Mods:

AMS Flash
AMS Boost controller
Turbo XS Downpipe
AMS adapter pipe
Vibrant Catback
AEM Cold Air Intake

And here is the graph. I still smile when I look at the jump from just some basic mods. This is roughly the HP our stage II package would do to an EVO IX for more then twice the price and about 30 less Ft/lbs of torque. STI FTW!

I am going to have them tune it on 100 octane and take it to the track to see what she can do in the quarter, then dial it down and take her to autobahn for some turning the wheel kind of racing

Eric

Eric, does the vibrant header eliminate the boxer sound or retain it?

'07 have proven to be great tuner cars. Too bad the still have that aluminum block. I hope the new Evo has sleeves in the new 4B11.

You 4 cylinder guys must have notoriously weak blocks if they can't handle the power because they are aluminum. People always worry that the Al block can't handle as much power as an iron block. If its made properly, it should be fine. People are making 700-800 hp and even above with aluminum mustang blocks with no problems. Your internals should be breaking far before the block does.

Nice numbers. Those are crazy gains for so few mods. Wish my car had a turbo from the factory.

That 700-800hp on a Mustang is still only 100 hp / cylinder, which would put an Evo at 400 hp. That is not the power level at which people are concerned about aluminum blocks holding up.

Nice gains, but looks like the TQ falls off quickly. Shouldnt the 2.5 hold that TQ better?

Impressive numbers, I do like the 07's more and more. Still, we have seen plenty of IX's making 330+whp and similiar torque with just a TBE, intake, boost controller, and tune... So its not that crazy....

Good job.

I think those are great PEAK numbers and great PEAK torque. This would make an excellent auto-x car for sure.

However, for drag racing, the power looks to be pretty weak dont you think? Its making peak power at 5500RPM then falling off hard and is only making roughly 280whp at 7000RPM. If you launch the car and never go below 5500rpm, you wont even be getting near 300whp.

EDIT, I was going to add what the guy said above. We have seen similar if not better power from IX's with very similar mods. However, the IX's power doesnt fall dramatically after 5500RPM like the STi's.

The power falls off like that b/c of the smaller turbo. Its pretty simple
