COBB stage 1 vs Perrin stage 1
trying to feel this one out. i am wanting to buy a stage 1 kit but cant decide on perrin or cobb. each one is the same 449.00 price point and each one says around 15%hp increase. so i want some feedback from you all who are seasoned at this.

The Perrin Stage 1 uses a Cobb V2 AP with a map optimized for a Perrin drop-in filter. The Cobb AP itself has several maps up to 3 stages with maps optimized for either ACN 91, 91, or 93 octane fuels built-in based on your vehicle year.
2008-2010 Stage 1 maps are intended for stock cars with only an intake and Cobb currently supports the stock, Cobb SF, AEM, AMS, Injen and HKS intakes for those years. The 2011+ GSR and MR Stage 1 maps are for COMPLETELY STOCK cars.
Personally, I think the staging order for the 2011+ maps are better. I like the pathway better:
- Stock
- Stage 1 (optimized stock)
- Stage 2 (add turbo-back exhaust)
- Stage 3 (add SF intake and 3-port solenoid)

Agreed. It baffles me that Cobb gets criticized for lack of Evo X support. I think the new V3 Accessport is plenty of proof that they still recognize the market.
I'll share that one of the reasons I like Cobb's off the shelf maps is that I can do a lot of bolt-on modifications without worrying about getting tuned right away. I know that a custom tune will yield more gain as these OTS maps are fairly conservative. In the long run I'll eventually need a custom tune once other turbos and manifolds are put into play, but the idea of not needing as many retunes is appealing to a fellow like me who would rather up the power in manageable increments.
