E. 85 tested low @ E 80 not sure what to do?

I have been running ignite E 85 and it has become to expensive so I bought a e85 fuel tester and decided to bye it at the pump . Today I tested it and it tested. @ E 80 do I have anything to worry about? What is an acceptable knock on my cobb v3 access port ? New to E 85 It's only my 5th tank of e 85 . Thanks for ur help in advance !!!

No that's perfectly fine. Next to no difference with only 5% ethanol difference. You would still be fine even at E70. As long as your AFR is within 11.0-11.8 after spool you are fine. Im sure Cobb has it set extra conservative for additional safety also if you're using one of their maps. 1-2 counts normally in ecuflash is acceptable.

It shouldn't consistently knock every pull. If you're using stock knock filter settings it will 1-2 counts here and there off and on which is acceptable.

Hey tom, so if it were the other way around, say we got tuned on pump e85 and wanted to switch to a blended e85 like one from ftw would we need to retune to run the blended e85

Also would it even be worth it to switch to the blended one ? Any gains besides consistency between each tank

Do you guys ever have problems in the winter. I know the e85 gets more and more gas in the mixture the colder you go. Is an e85 setup for an everyday driver possible in a place like Minnesota?

Hopefully the Zeitronix FlexFuel system will make its way to the Evo. I know cobb offers it for the GTRs now.

If the tunes good you wont experience anything abnormal vs regular gas except that you'll burn through the gas much much quicker.

But bad cold starts on e85 are tune related the car just needs a lot more fuel to fire up cold vs regular 93 per say.

Most cars drive better on e85 in general, and of course it will make a ton more power.

In the winter they usually put E70 then in the summer E85. If the cars 12.0 AFR on e85 you may run say 11.5 or richer on E70.

I have no idea how FTW stuff works. I never used it. Everyone I tune that im aware of uses E85 straight out of the gas pump. As long as you are within E70-E85 you should be fine.

If your tune is that dangerous to the point that 15% swing from 70 to 85 causes issues then you shouldn't be running that tune in general.

I have been running pump e85 for the last 4-5 years i will never pay for a blended one ever.

If you have a gas station you trust and tested their ethanol then id keep using it. im sure its a lot cheaper then buying what you're buying now.

Thanks for the response, but ftw is a company that sells a bunch of different types of race gas, Chris miller is the guy who started the company, the gas I'm talking about in particular is just a e85 blend that's a consistent e85, it won't vary from fill up to fill up like from the pump

Just curious if there's any gains from running it or if it would only be seen through a retune

You can't run e85 without tuning for it.
