Best size drag radial?

What is the best size drag radial tire (and brand) to help induce
tire spin during a launch and thus preserve the drivetrain?
I am at 364 awhp and will use the stock 17x8 rims.

So you want a sticky drag race tire, but one of your issues is making tire spin?

I would suggest the BFG 245 45 17 drag radial. Don't expect much tire spin though at 375whp level.

The 245/45-17 is a little wider than my stock tires now!
I was thinking about going skinnier than stock to get more tire spin,
just at the launch!

so what is the problem with stock tires then. you don't want tire spin, that's completely backwards. If you want to go fast and get better ET, you need traction and not tire spin.

if you want tire spin, stop looking for drag tires and just get cheap kumho's.

This is like asking what exhasut makes the most power, but wanting a 1" diameter low flow cat to keep it quiet.

the only time you will ever spin the tires is at the launch, and that is when you DONT WANT TIRE SPIN.

honestly....
You can get tire spin if you just launch the car hard...
I launch at 6K...get 60ft times of about 1.8xx on sumitomo 235/40/18's...
this is alot of wheelspin..which I really dont want. Goin to try the hoosier drag radials next!

I think your missing my point. Evo's were not made for drag racing.
So I DO want tire spin ESPECIALLY at the Launch.
Without tire spin you're putting to much pressure on your drivtrain!

I'm not talking about burn-out contest tire spin, just enough to take
some pressure off the drivetrain and get a good 60' time.

So if anyone out there has tried running skinnier tires for drag racing
let me know what you used and how were the results.

what we're saying is...with that power...and on 17's....
a 5000rpm launch would give u the tire spin u want.

OK, I'll just leave my stockers on and try a higher rpm launch, maybe with
my new twin-disc clutch I'll improve my 1.98 60' time.

yeah...I had an HKS twin disc on..
car was basically stock...with the addition of nitrous and boost control..
the twin discs can take high rpm launches..so u are safe..
just slip it coming off the line.
I got consistent 1.8 60ft times...and this is on a crappy launch pad with sumitomo tires.

you never gain anything with tire spin. These drivetrains are extremely strong, spinning the tires does nothing but waste energy that could be pushing your car to faster 60'. Then when the tires cartch traction, you put more shock on the drivetrain than if you just launched with the correct amount of traction and clutch slip.

Trust me, I know as much as anyone about launcing awd mitsubishi's. My best 60' time last friday night (1.575) is better than ANY usa evo8 on http://www.dsmtimes.org/evo.htm
my talon also does consistent 1.50 to 1.54 short times.

I think if you want to get better 60' times, go ahead and buy a set of drag radial tires and slipthe clutch enough.

if you don't care about drag racing (since evo's are not made for dragracing, or so everyone says), just use the tires you have.

I just don't get why you want to buy tires specificly to spin at the dragstrip thinking this will somehow help your 60' or save your drivetrain. That's false on both issues.

I think evo's are awsome drag cars for street tires. If not the BEST drag car availble.

Actually its now well known fact that tires transfer max power with 10% tire spin. Another phrase for it is "hazing the tires" You will get max acceration from the launch when you haze the tires.

Kumho ASX all season tires 235 45 17. They are worn flat now, Im probobly going to get another set of cheapo's for everyday use, and find a second set of evo wheels to put a set of drag radials on for track use.
