Hey, no problem. You are talking here to somebody who is on his second EVO..... Of course, I've also owned a number of other cars and I know a fair bit about cars in general. I think the EVO is a great car and a great performer. If I did not think so I would not have purchased 2 EVOs . Still, when I keep reading bull$hit like the EVO can beat any car in any contest, it's time to shine some light on it, dreamers is a kind description for ignorant fools.......

JFYI, Winding Road Magazine, issue no#7, jan-Feb 06, did a road and track comparison of the Z06 against the Viper,F430, Porsche Carrera S and the Evo IX. They gave the track portion to the Evo, which to be honest with, I was quite suprised. I'd say that's pretty immpresive for the Evo.
I've driven both the Viper & Z06 and would take the Z06 any day over the Viper. You can run the Z06 "***** to the wall" all day with the a/c on, with the Viper, you have to crank the heat(at least on the track) to keep it cool.

 

Evo out of the box?? Have you ever heard of the evo fq400?? In some mags its been said a stock evo9 will run a 12.9 or a 13.1 in other ones and thats with 286bhp. The out of the box evo fq400 is 400bhp. I think its definatly in the same arena as the viper or zo6.

 

Who said the Viper is made of tractor parts. Most people won't care. Heck even I think the Viper is made with high tech parts. It is true the ZO6 is more of a bargain. But the Viper will turn more heads as it has a unique look and is more expensive, whereas the ZO6 basically looks like any other Vette. And you do see more Vettes than Vipers.
If I was filthy rich, I would buy an NSX. The thing with that though is it only puts out 270hp and is a V6. A Viper is 80k, but that is a V10 and 500hp.

And how many jokers in the USA have fq400 EVOs? What I read all the time is how their EVO VIII or IX ('03 to '06) just destroyed a ______ (enter your favorite exotic car in the blank) driven by _____ (enter your favorite subject of envy).

This is total bull$hit. I've seen the tail lights of a number or exotic cars quickly disappearing in the distance as seen from my 249 whp EVO MR.... Some guys are on worse than crack if they think the EVO is the end all of high performance cars. I just wish I could be there the next time one of the "dreamers" gets dropped like bad habit by a MB sedan

 

I rather take the new Z06. OVER a Viper HANDS down. Z06 out performances a viper on ANY TRACK! EVOS & 06 Z06 are very comparable. Vipers dont handle like a z06.

 

Didn't the Z06 have the second fastest time at Nuremberg for production cars? I think it finishest behind a 400k Porsche.

 

Well most people don't buy exotic cars to race them, they buy them because of there value and the way they look. People that by vipers do not buy vipers because they want to race them 24/7 on a track. They buy them to cruise and show off ...

 

That's true, the people who buy Vipers or a new Z06 could probably buy 3 EVOs if they wanted. Bang for the buck isn't usually the first thing they consider.

 

I think that is true for most people and most cars. I'd guess that the ppl who buy cars only to race are in the miniscule minority. Most people who buy any exotic or even high performance or sporty cars (like the EVO) do it for the pleasure of ownership and to show off a bit. I wonder what percentage of EVO owners bought their cars exclusively for racing..... Maybe .0005%?

 

You are very true. I can honestly say I didn't buy mine to race it. First of all it is my only car and want to own it for quite a while. So I don't want to beat on it. I basically bought it because I have always wanted an Evo since it was only in Japan. Performance value is awesome, upgrade potential, and looks. The aura of owning an Evo doesn't hurt either. I have never even been to the quarter mile track. True I own a high performance car and talk about all the upgrades and power but never "race" it. I do open it up here and there.
Just kind of think of me as the leader of a nation. With all the high tech weaponry, latest defense satellites, advanced bionuclear warheads, etc., but never wanting to really use them. I have a built up military, but don't use it. Just nice to know I have it there when I need it.

 

don't forget that people on these forums are unlike the majority of consumers.. WE KNOW WHAT WE ARE BUYING.... unlike grannies in s600s

 

Don't kid yourself. Those grannies also know what they are buying...... Specially those who buy S600s..... They might not ever use their car to humiliate a young EVO owner (although they could easily do it), but they definitely know what their many hundreds of $K are buying. Otherwise they'd just get a Taurus or a Cobalt or some other POS
