New PB 1/4, 11.935 @ 114.70 (VIII No cams)

UPDATED 4/29/2006 Took the car to another track today, Milan Dargway which is an IHRA track...............

Backed the 11 with a 11.9620 @ 114.54. Did not run a 116 mph but did run a 12.05 @ 115.09

As the title states I ran two 11 second passes on Sunday. (Timeslip to be posted soon)

I drove one hour to the track (Lapeer Dragway, Lapeer Michigan) removed the spare, put on the helmet and went straight to the lights with the car hot.

First 3 passes made back to back within 10 minutes (track was empty when it opened, chance of rain Sunday, The temparature was about 55 degrees, 700 ft above sea level)

1.710 60ft, 12.158 @ 113.74
1.703 60ft, 12.046 @ 116.22
1.661 60ft, 11.944 @ 116.17

45 minute cooldown

1.806 60ft, 12.205 @ 115.24
1.802 60ft, 12.524 @ 116.01 (Missed second)
1.730 60ft, 12.007 @ 116.41
1.655 60ft, 11.935 @ 114.70 (tires barely spun)

I know you guys like to know what was done to the car, so here is your list:

Car specs: 2005 EVO VIII GSR (NO SSL PACKAGE)

GO FAST BITS: Stock Turbo, Stock Cams, Stock block. Turbotrix Mail-in Flash, AMS MBC @ 22 PSI, AMS Intercooler, Stock turbo Manifold/ported, JDM MR BOV, DC downpipe, Thermal Exhaust, AEM Intake, ACT Clutch/Flywheel, TRE Tranny, BG Sychro shift

MISC Perf. bits : Energy Suspension total Poly Kit, Apex N-1 coilovers, Progress 27mm rear bar, DC Titanium strut tower braces FRT & RR, AMS lightweight Battery, Zakly (SP) metal shift linkage bushing, Energy Suspension Shift mount bushings, Russell stainless clutch line, Ingalls "siffy" engine damper, Frt motor mount bushing Russell braided brake lines, SAMCO coolant, Intercooler hoses, Powerslot rotors, Hawk pads, ATE SuperBlue brake Fluid, Royal Purple 5W30 Oil, 5Zigen FN01RC 17 X 9, Falken Azenis RT615 tires, 255/40/17

Other add ons. S2000 antenna, Ralliart Ti pedals, Ralliart Shift knob, Autometer lower gauge pod, Marshall gauges, 35% window tint, all stock body panels, Wing is removed.

The car weighs 3300lbs with my 220lb butt in it. (On Intercomp scales) Had 1/4 tank of Sunoco 94 Octane.

The car is set-up for the roadcourse not the dragstrip so it was just aligned Friday with -2.5 degrees camber in the front, Toe-out, -1.5 Degrees camber in the rear, Zero-Toe.

The car was last on the Dyno in Dec. It made 300whp and 280lbft. on a Mustang Dyno. Since then I removed the DC turbo manifold, installed the stock ported one, Installed the AEM intake, (removed the Apex-I one) replace the leaking stock BOV (was bleeding to 18.5-19psi) now holds 20-21 at redline). And changed from the Exedy 13lb flywheel to the ACT 10.9lb one.

This was only the 3rd time since the March 2005 purchase I have been to the Dragstrip with the car.

Sorry scanner is not working, will provide better pictures/scans later. CAR 210

Damm dude, those are some nice passes for sure. The million dollar question is how did it do after the strip?

Thanks guys,

Fine, I drove it 1 hour home and parked it in the garage. It is on jackstands currently swapping to DBA 2-piece rotors in the front, Hawk Blue Pads, Bleeding the brakes and rolling the rear fenders....................It gets loaded into the trailer Thursday night and hits Gingerman Raceway (roadcourse) on Saturday.

Gotta love the EVO for multi-tasking

I can't figure out where the power is coming from. Pump gas, low boost, mail-in flash and no special power adders. You don't normally get around 360-370whp out of nothing. Any idea what's making all that power? Evos with cams and race gas with the boost set to 25psi have trouble trapping 116...

Well it is a 05 (better turbo) that was running 22 psi, with the flash and exhaust I'm sure he was at least putting down 330 hp. He also has a decent clutch and tires which I'm sure helped out. This still seems like an incredible time for the amount of mods listed however. This boy can drive!

Oh, I'm not even talking about the time. That is hard to fathom, too, but the 116mph means no less than 360whp on a Dynojet, since his total weight is 3300. Also, when's the last time you saw an 05 put down 330whp on basic mods and pump gas? Those are IX numbers. Most 05s with those mods put down around 300whp.

I have no idea.............everything that is done to the car is listed above.

I have always been questioned on every car and street bike I have taken to the dragstrip and the roadcourses. My cars tend to "perform" better than they should. I have been practicing 'launching" and "shifting" cars/bikes on the street almost everyday since I was 16 (almost 16 years ago), (Grew up street racing in Detroit, moved to the dragstrips and roadcourses in the Midwest)

When I had an SRT4 with only Stage 1, Mopar exhaust, Injen Intake, Motor mounts and Drag radials it ran 13.00 @ 105 at Milan two years ago. A exec (Mike Dalahanty (sp?)) from the SRT division at DaimlerChrysler was there with his son and was interigating me about the car. Apparantly the fastest anyone at Chrysler every went with the stage one was 13.2........???? That car made 225 whp and 240lb ft on a Mustang dyno.

My Integra Type R made only 185whp on a mustang dyno and weighed in at 2500lb with me in it, that went 13.3 @ 105

The EVO has been "overly maintained"
  • 7 oil changes in 11k miles with Royal Purple,
  • I have pulled the trans twice in 11K miles once for a clutch/flywheel, 2nd time to have the trans rebuilt by TRE, Sent clutch to ACT for inspection/relined the disc.
  • Diffs fluids have been changed twice in 11K
  • Trans fluid has been changed 4 times 11K
  • Spark plugs are changed every 5K, NGK BPR7ES (I think)
ALL WORK HAS BEEN PERFORMED BY ME...........no one else has touched the car with the exception of the Mail-in reflash from TURBOTRIX.

As stated before the last time the car was on the dyno it made 300whp..........we realized at that time that the Boost gauge was reading high and the car was bleadin gboost lower than I thought. With the addition of T-bolt clamps and the JDM MR (metal) BOV the "blead" is almost non-existant.

Using the above info, is 2 psi at redline worth 30whp? Making the car closer to 330 whp on a MD dyno..........................so maybe 350-360on a "happy" Dynojet???????

Am I the greatest driver on the planet????? (I would love to think so, but that is doubtful)

I don't know?

Yeah, I don't know either. Great driving doesn't create horsepower, although it does get the most out of given horsepower. The problem, though, is that great driving with those 60's would put you in the 11.6-11.7 range on 116mph, but instead you were squeaking out 11.9s occasionally. I think the driving is superb, but the MPH may be inflated by the track. Kinda like how if you look at my 12.000 timeslip, it says 115.7, but that was an artificial mph...it was reading 2mph higher that day in the left lane.

So, even if we take away 2 or even 3mph due to a timing anomaly, you'd still be trapping 112-113mph on a mail-in flash with pump gas, which is unheard of...still awesome.

It's a 50-60whp X factor...inexplicable.
