12.15@110...but need some advice.

I just got backfrom the track and as much as Im dissapointed Im also confused now. My new mods are in my sig. Last year I ran a 12.3@108 with the TBE, MBC, clutch, and Dynoflash.

Track conditions were: 2250ft elev. 20mph headwind with 25+mph gusts, 60 degrees, crappy prep.

Here are my decent runs in order. At least 45 minutes between each. All on 93 Octane.

60ft 1.91
1/8 8.04
mph 88.23
1/4 12.44
mph 111.7

60ft 1.74
1/8 7.71
mph 90.53
1/4 12.18
mph 106.3!!!

60ft 1.83
1/8 7.82
mph messed up #
1/4 12.29
mph 106.6

60ft 1.77
1/8 7.70
mph 89.0
1/4 12.15
mph 110.0

60ft 1.76
1/8 7.73
mph 91.79
1/4 12.19
mph 106.6!!!

What is up with the mph's? Every time I shifted into 4th the car just seemed to die. I thought that maybe I was pulling timing but the last run was only boosting 22 falling to 20 in 4th and I still only picked up 15mph in the last 1/8th.

Could the wind have caused this much drop or is there something wrong with my top end? Any advice would be great. I really wanted to break 11's

Well I don't see to much trouble with your car, you are racing at 2250ft elevation which will hurt your E.T. and mph. You have an 11 second car closer to sea level.

Well my biggest concern is why I only picked up 2mph over last year with the all my new mods and why the almost 5mph swings in my runs. I didnt know if the wind could have that big an effect or if there was something wrong with my car.

Is there anyway to calculate how much you lose with various headwind speeds?

BTW I just ran checked my corrected times for altitude and it was a 11.83@112.95! I didnt realize that 2200ft made that much difference.

I wouldn't worry too much, conditions can play a pretty big part on your times for your car. As far as I am concern, you 12.1@110mph is around 11.9-12.0@112-114mph in more ideal conditions, which would be right around the range I would expect for your EVO. The only real gain in substantial power I could expect to see from your new mods is from the cams. For instance the upgraded FMIC is nice, but there are many who believe it is not very neccessary for a stock turbo EVO. Still I would expect a greater than 2mph gain, but again this could be attributed to the track conditions at the time, and another visit to the drag strip with better conditions could equate to better times and traps.

With so many different tracks and conditions, we all have to be realistic with the times that we expect to achieve. Comparing times from EVOs close to sea level and better tracks is not the way to go. When I complete my first phase of mods for my IX, I know what numbers to expect. Sure I realize there are other IXs with similiar modifications running 11s and very low 12s, but I just don't see that happending with me as a driver, 91 octane pump gas, and track conditions not as ideal as other places around the country. I'd be satisfied with 12s, thrilled with mid 12s, and low 12s, damn I'd bust a nut. Just got to be realistic.

If the car felt like it was dieing......I would get new spark plugs and see what happens.
