Opinion Requested Here!

Went to the track last night for one run. I am still very new to AWD and I can't really drive it yet, but I would like to have a good esitmate on what I would be running if I actually had a 1.7 60 ft. My slip goes like this

R/T .594
60' 2.068
330 5.716
1/8 8.75
MPH 80.85
1000 11.374
1/4 13.608
MPH 98.82

This is the second time I have run my car at the track. I have a total of 7 runs. Each time I have run, my time has been better. My first try was 14.3...lol

I am not scared...I said I don't know how to drive, this is why I go to the track to learn. I don't let the clutch out quite fast enough on the launch resulting in a low 60 ft time which kills my time and my trap speed. Flame on if you must. I think if I get the 60 down, then I will be on par with average speed for a stock ix MR.

Thanks, this is about where I want to be for a beginner. One more time to the track and I think I can pull this off.

Are u shifting into 5th before the traps. Your trapspeed is quite low.

Are you completely stock? Your traps wont get better with a lower '60. Tell us where you are shifting (rpm wise), and track conditions. Your traps are way low.

I am completely stock and shifting at 6800-6900 rpm. I am not sure if going into the redline will harm the car so I stay away from it just a touch. I am at the top of 4th and almost into 5th at the end of the quarter. I don't think I've gone into 5th yet. Keep in mind I have an MR. What would be a better tactic? Also, I am not totally just looking to trap a higher speed, but get a better time over all for now. I do understand that a better trap will help with the time as well. I have been trying to concentrate on the launch right now. That seems to be the weakest of my skills with this car so far. Shift points will come next I guess.

I ran my car up to 7500 power shifting no problems. I just tore down the head and there were no valvetrain issues. People do this all the time and there isn't gonna be a problem with the motor. Shift as fast as you can. Focus on it. Too fast is when you start grinding the gear. Focus and make a conscious effort in your shifting. I used to shift like I did on the road and just didn't think about it. When I started focusing I dropped .3 in the 1/4 and gained 3mph.

As for your launch, if you smell clutch after your run you're doing it too slow. If the car bogs down you're doing it too fast, but considering you were afraid to take it to redline, I feel you may not be launching it high enough. I launched my car off the revlimiter before I had a two step...this is definately NOT recommended, though I haven't blown any of my driveline yet. Try feathering the throttle, keep it between 45-55, reving the motor to keep boost up. Then work on slipping the clutch till you get a 1.7. I don't have any experience launching a stock evo, but I do launching a stock wrx, which should be even worse, so this should still apply. Try it out.
