help me launch my car right

ok i went to the drag stip. i got about 25 passes total. not all in 1 nite but over time. i have the exedy twin HD clutch and it seems to work real good. but i cant seem to get good 60 foots. my best to date was 1.78 but i average 1.81 my best time was 12.162 at 116 with again a 1.81 60 foot. i cant seem to get my 60 foot's any lower. im shifting as fast as i can. im spinning in 1st gear bad and getting strong cherp's in second. im launching at 5850rpms with a 2 step. im launching off the line at about 6psi of boost as well.

im on the stock clutch line. if i change it do you think it will help me at all?? im lost for what to do. i dont want to keep going to the track and pratice just to brake something and not get better. so now im asking for some tips or help. then its worth me trying out new things and praticing them. anyone got any idea's for me.

ok i was shifting out of 1st at 7000rpm's tire pressure was 20psi in all 4 tires. im riding on bfgoodwrich kdw's the summer drag tire's i guess they are.

i dont have a scanner but here is what it says

r/t .893 < test and tune. it dont matter i go when im ready
60' 1.814
330 5.115
1/8 7.849
mph 88.94
1000 10.201
1/4 12.162
mph 116.34

You're obviously having a traction problem. That has to be addressed to get you a lower 60'. Lower the air pressure and/or get some drag radials. Also try just feathering it out ouf the hole at 6k, no 2 step.

Well I dont think youve mentioned your launch technique yet but make sure you are feathering it out and not just dumping it. It also might just be the track your at. I know a guy here with BFG drag radials that cant get below a 1.63. I have a hard time just getting 1.68-1.69's. Track is just prepped horrible and it doesnt have a concrete launch pad.

my launching is done like i said above. i have a 2 step that is set at 5850rpm's and making 6psi to 10psi off the line. i dont dump my clutch but i dont slip it eather. after the car moves and there is no more play in the drivetrain thats when i let it go. my tire pressure is already at 20psi. should i go lower? whats to low? i dont know how low to go.

and anyone have any idea's on what i asked about the clutch line?

Putting in a SS line wouldnt hurt but I doubt it will drop you into the 1.6's. I wouldnt go any lower then 20psi on street tires. Drag Radials yes, street tires no. I usually keep them around 22-24psi.

well there is that pill inside the clutch line or something right?. i was thinking to get rid of that to see if it would help

In your case removing the pill might hurt you at this point IMO. It would be a more abrupt launch for the driveline with it removed and shock the tires harder inducing wheelspin more easily. In your case if you are running street tires you might be too underinflated making less tread contact the track. Might go with as stated earlier 24 psi and see if it helps. In rear wheel drag days we used to launch and watch the "patch" we leave to see if the full tire is touching the road, as opposed to tire edges just touching. If you have tried the pressure adjustment already then it looks like a stickier drag radial for that track is needed.

Tire pressures sound really low.

My 2 step when I had a flash was set at 6150. I could always cut consistent 1.6's.

I floor it and let it bounce off the 2 step limiter. I leave my foot on the floor throughout 1st gear and very very quickly let the clutch out. It's not a dump or sidestep of the clutch but very fast release.

Hope that may help. Also, how's the track prep where you run?

It's easy dude, you have a couple options here. Odviously your problem is traction, so you can:

A. Try wider/better street tires, or drag radials
B. Lower your 2-step
C. Go try another track, and check preperation
or D. Slip the clutch more...

That's it, there's nothing more you can do...

heres what ya need to do...

keep the 2step where it is
20 psi is good
when u come up to the line hold the clutch in and floor it so ya hit the 2step
then slowly let the clutch out until it barely engages then press it back in just a bit so the cars not rolling.
when the light turns green let the clutch out slow at first until u feel it start to move then come off it fast. after that intial punch let off the gas just a littttle bit until u feel the tires bite down then floor it again.

with me spinning all of 1st on bald tires i still managed 1.7's.... with new tires i'm back to 1.6's

cheers!

this is what i do. just as you stated is what i do. i never thought of letting off the gas though to grab the tires better. i will try that sunday.

yes, letting off the gas a little put then back down again does quite a bit. when I used to drag my mustang I'd gain between .1-.2 seconds on my 60ft letting off a bit.
