Diagnose my time slip
Hi all,
I finally took my new MR to the track, and i'm sort of at a loss for what's going on..
Anyway here's the rundown before the slip.. The car has 2900 miles on it and runs fine and pulls great.. Weather was 53* 30% humidity and about 400ft DA..
I had full weight and 1/2 tank of 93..
Here's the slip..
R/T: .331
60': 1.854
330: 5.416
1/8: 8.379
MPH: 81.66
1000 : 10.950
1/4: 13.144
MPH: 100.66
My question is, how can my MPH be so for trapping that speed? The car is bone stock running through the traps in 5th and showing 110 mph.. My last Evo 9 had an exhaust only and babying it would run a 13.0 @ 106.5 with 1.93 60's..
Please help me as everyone I talked to was scratching their heads like I was making a ton of power and letting off at the end, but I was in it past the beams..
Thanks
Jon

Why in the world would you shift to 5th when stock? You aren't anywhere near finishing 4th in stock form. Shifting to 5th is why your MPH is so low, because there was no advantage to doing it from a gearing perspective, and that was less time spent accelerating. Your ET would only suffer much if you did it slowly. Stay in 4th ALWAYS until you are trapping over 115.

I honestly don't know why I shifted into 5th.. My ET seems about right for stock, wouldn't you say? My '60's were ok, I know I can do better.. So you think by keeping it in 4th I would have gained 4-5 mph?

To the op. practice shift practice shift practice shifting. I have three or four time slips hanging here where i messed up the launch and got a worse 60 than you and still beat your MPH and 8th time when i was pretty much stock. Also a 1.8 is not TERRIBLE, i mean you have the stock clutch.

5th, my car always back halfed the track good even when i had basic mods i was traping 108. So thats about the limit for 4th. some runs i would hit 5th some i would bounce off the limiter.

Because even in an MR, you don't shift to 5th until you're trapping over 115 - I already said that earlier. The only exception is if you're at very high altitude like me where the powerband is shifted 1000rpm to the left.
No, you would not "loose" anything. You just aren't seeing the normal traps due to the 4-5 shift, which is at the end where you'd still be accelerating, but you stop accelerating for a bit due to the shift.

Wouldnt it depend on the tune, power band, rev limiter, tire size...........yayayaya . At 110 im at around 7200 and on my stock turbo theres nothing up there so i just shift at around 6900 to 7000 into 5th and let it roll. Been working okay id say.
