evolutionary, actually, if you payed more attention you would have gotten the entire reason we had to do this. On the 1st launch with the car it bounced all over and then at the end of the track there was a lot of smoke. I thought the car was hurt. Turns out the car turned sideways at the finish line. So we changed the suspension settings. On the second run Daniel attempted a burnout and when he hit the brakes hard the rear wheels locked up, I noticed it and opened the door to the car on the starting line and told him that the rear tires locked and that must have been what happened on the first pass. I then instructed him to pull the chute and let it hit before the end and THEN hit the brakes. This messed him up and that run sucked. The next two runs I kept reminding him "HIT THE CHUTE BEFORE THE END and THEN THE BRAKES." I must have told him 50 times. Also, if you use that college education you have or maybe just a little common sense you will realize that when the chute comes out it actually will unload the front of the car some RAISING it up. Nice try though.

So on this same subject, since you brought it up. We are installing a proportioning valve for the rear brakes to get rid of some of the hit on the rear tires when he hits the brakes. We are also moving some weight to the rear to help with the problem.

Thanks for giving me another reason to not like you, talking when you know nothing doesn't get you anywhere.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now about the subject at hand. We went to the track tonight just to do some testing of this low front end issue. Want to know what happens? Take a look in this section, I am starting a new topic.

Basically, if you're cheating the tree, I think you're just plain cheating and trying to make me think your car is actually better than it is... but if you have a more dependable rear axle or lack a roll cage or scattershield or battery kill switch, who cares? I'm not going to buy parts based on that.

Maybe if these things are that big of a deal, Buschur can add some rules to the quick 16 at DSM shootout to cover them... and Paul should make the drive and race even though he won't get to see Magnus
I find your perspective very insightful.

While generally agreeing with what you have aserted, I would like to suggest the following qualifications

1 - I have found that the skill set involved with setting up a fast drag car and the skills needed to design a reliable and well running street car are very divergant. While, certainly the ultimate drag car is a great test bed and a lot of interesting things can be discovered it has been my experience that much of what is learned from operating a GT42 equiped Evo has little to do with customer's street driven evos.

2 - I am much more interested to see how the CUSTOMERS of the various tuners fare with thier personal modified vehicles that they drive on the street. This IMHO is a great prediction of what to expect from that facility as a customer and also how the lessons learned on the track translate to the street car.

3 - Watching the Buschur pump gas Evos compete at the recent race really opened my eyes and IMHO basically revolutionized the expectations of what a limited budget street daily driver could accomplish. Things have come a long way in a few short years from 2004 when my car was proclaimed by the Editor of Turbo Magaine as the ultimate daily driver Evo. Through constant R & D and continual evolution of the parts combos and configurations, the performance of a bona fide daily driven Evo is now in the 9 second range on pump gas with a set up that is VERY reliable. Even 4 years ago I would not have agreed that it was possible. 4 years later my boss George goes out every day taking people for rides in the Bad Bish II which has proven to be totally reliable. I would not have ever accpeted the proposition that a Evo like that could make 600 whp and 30 psi on pump gas on a regular basis.

The NHRA rule adaption on my part is because NHRA knows how the lights work and what is going to keep the timers from being messed with. It has little to do with NHRA and their rule book. It has to do with what works and what doesn't to keep the lights from being tripped.

Also, the NABR thing. There is actually a fairly small group of people there and even a smaller group of people who aren't coming. Most of them are running their mouths and have never been there anyway. So I am glad to here you want to run with that group Paul.

Let's see just off the top of my head from NABR, Shearer was banned but he was there at this last race we had, Shepherd was there, Kiggly and Daryl. I even spoke to some of them and said, "Man I didn't think you'd come, the whole NABR ban and all." They laughed at the clowns on NABR starting that crap.

BTW Paul, why aren't you running that Magnus intake on your car now? I see AMS's was on it and now Drivens, seems odd to me.

Just by way of additional insight to this situation

the Black Buschur car came back from the chasis shop approx 48 hours before the race

It was a mad thrash by Daniel Buschur to attach the brake lines and get the car even operational. Obviously, there was no opportunity to test the car, suspension and brakes before the race.

One more note

To make the car hit the beams sooner at the end of the 1/4 mile you stand on the brakes to make the car NOSE dive down

Hitting the chute as David has suggested pulls the nose up slightly NOT down

I want to add that I have been banned from NABR for several years. Clearly they (NABR) could care less about fairness, decency or respect. I remember them creating an uproar against Jrod for mentioning David's book about DSMs.

Most of them and YOU (people reading this) should be happy that David is still holding the shootout given the BS and nightmares he has to go through ever year due to the same juvinile morons who tear up the local hotels and turn it into a spring break scene.

Those of you who elect not to attend for what ever reason are just cuting off their nose to spite their face. You will be missing out on a lot of fun.

Im not going anywhere without my Mechanic/Tuner. As you know he is apart of that group.

On the Driven note Tom has been very helpful with our goals and in many ways so i don't mind running his manifold Lucas and i are going to test the other manifolds i have but as you know very well it cost allot of $$ and time

Paul nothing bad against you or Lucas, but this is exactly why I do my own work/tuning on my own car. It's too hard to rely on someone else. You should really learn how to do this stuff so if that day comes that Lucas cannot be there to help you, you know what you need to do and how to get it done. This way you can make the decision yourself if you can make an event or not.

Its very very hard to do it all yourself.. You are one of the few that can do it all yourself and still manage to run those #'s.. I couldnt do it without my tuner either.. It has to be comforting when you can do it all yourself..

Even if a car hung low enough in the front to trip the beams with the body, the moment they start to accelerate, the front of the car rises removing it from both beams at the same time effectively KILLING all the rollout they would normally have. In this scenario, the cars 60ft and ET would both suffer. This is assuming the car in question has more than a foot from the front of the tires to the front of the portion of the car blocking the staging beams. An Evo has to be over 2 feet.

Watching the vid of 06MR's run, you can clearly see that the staging lights go out one after the other. You can also clearly see the front of the car raise quite a bit on the launch (easily over the height of the beams).
