first time at the track ever... please comment, and give advice...

hey guys, mods are as below.

went to the track for the very first time in my life. needless to say this was my first run:

14.8@107 with a 60 foot time of 3.0.

Ive never launched, so i decided not to and bogged really bad and then i grinded 2nd gear, let off and then got back on it again

I did 3 more runs trying to launch from 4k and 5k with some clutch slippage.

2nd and 3rd runs looked as the following:

12.98@109.77 with 2.1 60 foot

13.2@109.25 with 2.3 60 foot.

My last run was the best with launching around 5K. here is the slip:

12.8@110.43 with 2.0 60 foot time.

my mods are below.

should my ET be better with that mph? and how much whp do you think my car is making wit this consistent 110 mph trap speed?

is that MPH really low for my mods?

really need meth and get a wideband and dynotune probably...(car has been reflashed with email tune/tactrix, with no wideband last summer)

stock clutch, 38,000 miles.

any comments, tips, advice are welcome. thanks.

Well for your first time at the track I'd say thats pretty good, but I'd for sure invest in a meth kit. Do you have it setup for 2 step? 2 step and a clutch should help alot.

its not tuned!!??!! get to a reliable tuner, install a good clutch first, then go back to the track. have fun, get consistent, then continue to mod the car. just my .02

its been tuned with an email flash/tactrix.. with no wideband in it. was flashed last summer. i do feel like the clutch was slipping somewhat upon launching before it would really grab on .... 38,000 miles stock clutch.

Well, yes, the ET should be much better with that trap, but you already know that because you didn't get a single launch. Anything 2 or above is not an actual launch, so you can still improve a lot with some practice.

110 traps is about 310whp on a Dynojet.

You really need a wideband for a proper tune, I'd either get dyno tuned or buy a wideband asap

notice that as you improved your 60' times the mph came up, that tells me you're bogging it pretty bad or shifting very slow. Are you using the 2-step to launch? The stock clutch probably won't like that very much but it can make a huge difference. how fast is your shifting? if you see several samples in a log between shifts you're shifting too slow and losing e.t. and mph there as well.

did you get any logs of the runs?

it's high time to put a wb02 in there.

having the power doesn't guarantee good times though.

yeah, no you are right, my shifting sucked some serious ***. i just suck at the track, strangely enough i was super nervous as well. lol. it was a great rush.

after i grinded 2nd gear on that first pathetic run, i was concentrating on granny shifting it to second so i wouldnt grind or miss it. i even wore my sneaks to the track! and still ground 2nd on the first run.

my launch blows as u can see from my 60 ft times. after getting what i thought in my mind was a killer 5k launch with some slip, my best 60 footer was a 2.0.

still, i would have thought the mph would have been better.

in anycase im ordering a wideband tonight will have it in by a weeks time and hopefully log it so you can tune the **** out of it so i can go back...

maybe with the wideband and some tuning we can run some more boost, (i logged it again after turning it up to 25 psi but was getting 3-5 counts of knock so i turned it back down again prior to going to the track)

i didnt think of logging while running down the track, i can do that next time...

oh and no, i didnt use the 2 step.

do u know what you set it at?

oh and i was shifting at like 7300-7500 rpm in every gear. should i not do that? i read somewhere that i should shift at 7000 and then ride it out in 4th so that i land right before peak hp not the end of it when i upshift....

yeah the trap does seem to be off. I was seeing 116-118 with the green on pump and I'm not the best driver for sure. I was shifting at 8k and my 2-step was ~ 6000 but that will depend on your traction and launch technique.

I just tuned brad@mellontuning's car at the track and he's trapping 112 with the stock 9.8 hot side 03 turbo on pump running 12.5's with some slow shifting.

make sure you do a real boost leak test with an air compressor...maybe something came loose.
