I had best luck around 21-22 psi.

Is the BFG'S the best option we have besides going to an all out slicks? What do all the EVO's run who make around 700 WHP? I ordered 4 BFG'S 225-45-17 based on the positive remarks I seen on this thread. A buddy who runs a respectable performance shop told me those tires will skate around for me at my power level even in 3rd. Any thoughts I am starting to second guess my purchase.

The only other option I see is the MT 275-40-17 however I am not sure how to fit those tires in our chassis? What rim would one use and is coilovers required?

How much are you getting the BFG's for? If it is more than $200each then you should look at getting the New Hoosier DR. They are 245/45/17 (I think)and will fit on a stock rim.

Indeed th Hoosiers are a good option but I am waiting to see more test results out. Haven't seen people cutting 1.5s yet...

The problem with the Hoosiers is they are not getting very good 60' times. I was following the thread closely and some have had better success with their winter tires.

I bought the BFG for a smoken deal $150 each plus 4 drag rims all for $1226 installed. There is also a $100 mail in rebate which means $1126 for the total package.

I also researched the MT's who makes a 245-40-18 however with less side wall I think it may be a diff eater as well but any thoughts would be appreciated. I heard some are running MT 275-40-17 but have no idea what one uses for a rim. My tire shop told me I would have a hard time turning with those vette type tires.

Not entirely true, but the tires were not made for the street. IndyEvo's car is a lightly modded car running 11.6 with many, many 60's in the low 1.6 range. I have video of the tires running a 1.57 on StreetthisEvo's car at the shootout. Video show's very little wheel spin, although he thought it was lighting them up. Vwjeffs car ran it's best 60' time also on the new Hoosiers at the same shootout. I think he went 1.61 or so, with 8 runs in the 1.61-1.68 range. Very consistent. With that said, the tires are not for street use however. I posted elsewhere that 780 whp bogged badly with 18psi in the Hoosiers. It's just a matter of time until the characteristics of the tires show their entire benefits. They've already shown higher mph and lower 1/4 et's. The compound is from the well known Hoosier Slick and the 'framework' is from the drag radial. Several top shops have already stated that the Hoosiers are incredible, just too many people without all of the data trying to undermine their results.

The biggest problem I am seeing with the DR's is they require heat to make them work. I come from running 1.4's in a RWD on DR's. I got an idea how to make them work. I can tell you that with out the right heat, that car would not see 1.4's So you guys working with this tire are really at a disadvantage. You can get heat in them! They prob going to be a bit choppy when they crack loose. Not good obviously.

Now the ET Street Bias ply style or Slicks have a soft wall that allows for bit of wind up, this eats the initial TQ hit that would break a DR's adhesion point. So truly, I feel that these tires are working partially from being soft in compound, but largely from being a soft side wall. This side wall as mentioned kinda acts similar to sliding the clutch.

We need to find a way to get heat in these AWD cars tires. Only thing I can think of is heaters liked used by pro racing teams. **** we had them racing RC's. LOL

Honestly think when one is going for the record these need to be involved.

Sorry 9sec9 I was not trying in anyway to discredit the Hoosier's but was pretty disappointed with the 1.61-1.68 range. I believe one member posted he was getting those time with his winter tires. I agree with Owen when he says DR's need heat. As we all know the AWD system has many advantages however doing a burnout to warm the tires is not one of them. I think that is the reason why the Hoosier's is not shinning. I know from the BFG drag radials on my vette when they are not warm expect 2.0 60' however when they are good and hot you can expect to gain 4 tenth.

If someone would post some information on how some are able to run 275 MT's would be nice. Also what rim would one use to run ET street 15"?

Ok tires, i have had several different tires on my car and about 400-500 passes in my evo alone! This is my review

Mich pilots 235-440-17- I managed low 1.60s and squeaked out a 1.59 60ft. Very good all around tire

Bridgestone potenza reo1r 245-45-17 another great all around tire with several high 1.5 60fts and consistant 1.60-1.61 60fts The only problem i have with this tire size is, I lost 2 mph on the big end. This would be with the red turbo on pump gas running 10.7-10.80s The rim and tire package was about 3 lbs heavier than 235-40-17(thats rims and tires)

Bridgestone Potenza r009 all season 235-40-17, Mph went back up, and 60ft was low to mid 1.60's I did manage a couple high 1.5 with these tires!

Bfg Drag radials 225-45-17- low to mid 1.5s all day long!

275-40-17 micky thompson et streets i couldnt get to fit with out fender rubbing tires in corners and im sure they would have rubbed when the car squats

Generals (JUNK) 235-45-17 mid 1.60 60fts

Those are the ones i have tried on 17's. I didnt do burnouts with any of these tires, getting the 2 step set up correct and the right finesse is the BIG KEY to a decent 60ft. time! I believe any tire will 60ft 1.60's if you do this! Now if i ran 18 rims i would go with the mickey thompson drag radials with out any question! The fastest Drag radial cars in the country run Mickeys. 6.90s at 200mph Of coarse thats with a progressive boost controller

Just my 2 cents, take it for what its worth! I have only made a couple passes down the strip
If anyone has any questions PM me! I would be glad to help!

Trent

Nice write up however the only part I am not sure about is going to an 18" and MT. I run MT'S on another car and yes the best drag tires by far. The big concern I have going to an 18" rim is 1" less side wall. It appears in order to make any tire launch you need a soft side wall so it can absorb shock and store energy.

Going back to the 18" and MT'S I thought about that but in the end went to the BFG's. It's not too late to change if someone could chime in who have ran that setup.

If you leave correctly there should be no true shock. You should be able to let the clutch out in a fasion the moves the car then you basically act like a progressive set up and let come in. To early and you shock the tire aka hit the tire. To much and the 60 will slump. Just right the car leaves nice and smooth yielding a good 60'

FWIW 255/35/18 T1R's on my full weight car, I was running consistent 1.63's/1.64's.....guys this was second trip to the track ever in an AWD car. I had maybe 1500 miles on the car since purchase. No reason with the right technique and practice you can not cut low 1.6's and better no matter the tire. Granted it is not some rock hard pep boys special. LOL

That statement is blatently false. Jeff said they were the best FEELING tire, NOT the best 60 FOOTING tire he's ran on.

But this thread is about street/strip tires, so the Hoosier doesn't qualify anyways. You said it yourself, it's a strip only tire.

I am just wondering how many have tried the stock tires that came with the car? The Yokohama Advan's how do they do at the track? What kind of 60' are guys getting?
