First time out with the FS635

Last Saturday i wanted to try out my new setup for the very first time. I was quite anxious to see how the car reacts at the track. The feeling from my BR3065 is completely different!

The Specs:
- EVO IX GSR
- The Shop built 2.0 litre motor with Wisecos 1400HD, Carrillo with carr bolts, ACL main, rod and thrust bearings, main studs
- stock unported head with supertech dual springs and L19 studs
- stock intake manifold and throttle body
- Cossie M2 cams
- BR FS635 with tubular manifold 82 a/r
- BR Race fmic
- BR twin pumper
- BR 1200cc injectors
- BR balance shaft kit
- Dejon 4" intake with K+N filter
- AEM ems tuned by junior
- Shep tranny with Quartermaster twin
- Kosei K1TS wheels with Dunlop M3 winter

The car at around 26psi made 460awhp on the DD (1.0cf) which was 90awhp more than my BR3065 at 25psi. Lost almost 1000rpm spool but now the car revs all the way to 9000rpm whereas the pwer is a straight line. It does not drop but we didn't want to rev the motor higher with less than 20 miles...

Track conditions over 80 degrees and of course the car ran on straight pump... Gas tank at 1/2 full and with me the car weights 3400 pounds (driver is 255 pounds)

Made various runs but i will post the complete ones...

First car ever. Had to use the right lane which has no room to avoid the water box so my tires where a bit wet. Span like on ice and i was actually backpedaling it...
rt 0.608
60ft 2.108
330ft 5.803
1/8 8.497
mph 95.95
1000ft 10.716
1/4 12.558
mph 120.36

The clutch also is AGGRESSIVE! First time at the track and its quite tricky!

Second run. Bogged really bad! just kept the gas floored and waited for the turbo to hit!

rt 0.988
60ft 2.251
330ft 5.956
1/8 8.608
mph 97.6
1000ft 10.814
1/4 12.647
mph 125.58

Third run i increased the 2step a little bit and lowered the tire pressure. The car span hard again bouncing on the rev limiter but the 60ft was decent...

rt 0.649
60ft 1.848
330ft 5.044
1/8 7.657
mph 99.16
1000ft 9.852
1/4 11.671
mph 125.71

Fourth run came after about 2 hours and they had sprayed glue again on the track, so i bogged again...

rt 0.898
60ft 2.007
330ft 5.439
1/8 8.060
mph 99.05
1000ft 10.254
1/4 12.066
mph 125.32

It seems that i started getting fairly consistent 99mph traps on the 1/8. I think my 1/4 trap is a bit slow since i was easing all of my gear changes since i lost 3rd twice...

what i noticed on my logs is that since i wasn't flatshifting and i was taking my time on the gearchanges, after each gear change the boost wouldn't hit right up but it would make a very small J type spool curve. I guess i have to activate my flatshift and try it....

Can't wait to go out again and practice more...

What do you guys think?

3400lbs car, 99mph on the 1/8 first time out on pump and low boost for this turbo, and almost 126 traps... I believe the car definitely has another 3-4 miles with just better driving. As soon as i achieve that then we will proceed to racegas...

Nice way to go hit the track and see what the new combo is worth. I def see your car going 130+ on pump gas after this outing. Some quick shifting with this bigger turbo and maybe 1-2 psi more and it is 10's on 93! Your car was put together great.. very nice ride! Kudos

FS635 is a mean turbo.. Good for well over 700whp.. Not bad for 1st time out.. Just work on the 60ft as much as possible..

I agree that you can get another couple MPH. You really need to have no lift to shift with this turbo. I just wanted to clarify that you have broke 3rd gear twice?

LOL no i didn't break 3rd twice, but i lost the gearchange in 3rd twice...

Thanks guys... Definitely the car is more demanding in terms of driving and i cannot consider myself a very experienced driver since i have less than 50 passes since i bought the car back in 2006...

With more practice the time will go lower even on the snow tires.

Something else that might have affected me is that the car was running quite rich, in the 10.6-10.8 area. I am not sure if we need to make touch ups on the tune while at the track. If i remember correctly the power really jumps when playing with the afrs on the AEM. Much more sensitive that the stock ecu. I will leave that to my tuner. The only thing that i touch on my tune is the 2step.

It was a great day, drove 110 miles to the track and back, made my passes, spanked quite a few muscle cars (i was the only non american car at the track!!!).
If the weather is nice i will go again on Saturday and maybe Sunday, of course depending the weather...

keep in mind that this clutch is not very friendly in terms of a daily driven car. Its very aggressive in terms of grabbing but i guess that why it was built!
When my wife heard me trying to pull into the driveway she thought that my car was broken... LOL

Not bad times. Just get some more seat time with your turbo and you will be just fine.

Good luck.

Well its all based on the trap speed

With the amount of whp at 1.0 correction you report in the first post your very consistant trap speeds to me show that the power level is very accurate at that correction or perhaps 1.1

With 38 - 40 psi on pump and meth that turbo will easily crack 700 and should trap in the high 140 mph range with the right supporting VE enhancing mods and a built motor

Thank you Al for the comment. The car the way it stands has more mph. I am pretty sure with more practice I will show that. But then again I am weighting 3400 with driver which is not one of the light cars out there. Imagine to drop around 100 pounds from the car which is possible with no crash beams, no ac, no strut bars, no insulation, door beams and lighter front seats and have a 170 pound driver instead of a 250-260 pound driver...

As fas as the pump and meth is concerned I will never use meth injection simply because I do not trust it. I would run only a vert small jet in addition to my tune just for the cooling effect during summer and that's it. When I become more comfortable with the car I will tune on racegas probably Q16. Pump and meth is a great solution for the brave ones but it cannot substitute pure racegas!

I will probably go again today at Island to make 3-4 more passes. Later tonight I might have more results to report!
