Running faster than 11.49's w/out cage?
How is it that I see cars on here running faster than 11.49's in the quarter without cages? Did NHRA change their rules in regards to cages? I think I would've heard about it long ago had they changed it.
I realize this is a safety item that is taken seriously, but it sure would be nice to be able to NOT put a cage into my Evo.
For example... The BadBish... no cage... runs 9's...what gives?

Go to small tracks that dont really have tech inspections. Otherwise go on test and tune nights as they usually arent as strict as they are during events.
Ive only been thrown out once for no cage and I went on a saturday event. I ran 8 passes in the low 10s the wednesday before that and they never said a thing.

Yea, well Norwalk and Milan are a little iffy at times. I go to either LaRue of Dragway 42 which are both hick tracks that dont even know what Tech is. But the tracks arent near the condition or Milan or Norwalk either.

Rules are there for a reason.Ive been racing a long time and been on my lid a couple times. My evo isnt fast so im not going to worry about a cage for now.Badbish running low 9s with not even a roll bar is down right stupid and irresponsible.

Yeah I've run at PIR, Woodburn, and Mission Raceway... all of them have GOOD tech inspectors and they have a good judge of how fast your car will go. They also keep an eye on you and know if you run faster than you've been teched for. PIR is especially good at kicking people out.

^^agreed!
and Gordian, I think your forgetting that Dave has driven cars in the 7s. He knows whats safe, and its also up to either Kevin or Trent if they feel safe in the car. If they dont want to drive it, or if they want a cage in it, Im sure Dave would.

I have no problem running a 9 second car down the track, the cars of today are a hell of a lot safer than 20 years ago! Hell I get on my busa run 9's with a jacket and a helmet, but a motorcycle is a hell of a lot safer than a 9 second evo!

I ran 11.36 without a cage and the next round they told me that if I ran faster then 11.5, I was DQ'ed! Turned the boost down three ponds and ran a 11.6 to get beat out by an talon running 11.5! This winter I am doing a cage!

As mentioned, it all depends on the track and the event you're attending. They will be more strict during an actual racing event vs. test and tune nights. And many tracks are pretty lax about the rules when it comes to street cars.
