Torque gives you acceleration, Horsepower gives you top speed! But you also have too have the right gearing.

you're wrong about everything but the gearing...and you really didn't say too much there.

Horsepower is directly related to acceleration... H-peas is what you needs!

Here is a link to a aero top speed calculator! This is what we use at Bonneville, it does not ask for torque! it asks for horsepower... Like i said before torque gives you acceleration, horspower gives you your top speed, after the 1/4 mile is over.
If you add weight to a car the only thing that is changed is the length of time it takes to get the car up to speed, the top speed does not change!

After seeing what Andre Simons and the crew at STM can do with the Tomei 2.2 stroker I would go with that one. At the end of the day I would say go with what your engine builder is most comfortable and familiar building. A poorly built engine wont do much.

I took several years of physics... trust me on this one. Horsepower is work over time. There's a reason why Diesel trucks don't outrun Honda's. IT'S NOT BECAUSE OF THE TORQUE TO WEIGHT RATIO.

bah... read this.

Credit goes to Paul Yaw. You might remember him from developing such products as the Injector Dynamics 1000cc and 2000cc injectors that you all know and love.

BTW... I chose the 2.2L

qualify what "There's a reason why Diesel trucks don't outrun Honda's" means please? I have seen Honda's line up with Diesel's at the track and the Honda was not the first to the finish line either.

Perfect explaination about torque and horsepower in my sig. and yes there are desiels that will out run hondas.

Torque gets your car up and going from a stop fast, Horsepower is what keeps you going fast.

Give me the AMS 2.3RR motor - proven to go low 9's and its a stroker!!!

I think the most proven situation though is the 2.1 / 2.2

isnt the 2.3rr based off the 2.4 block with a shorter stroke crank (less than the stock 2.4 100mm)? If so, technically wouldnt that be a destroker?

Mike,

I will find the link, I know they had one or two customers that were in the 9's on that engine.
