The fact that the car has an automated shifter certainly does not disqualify it. They are just making good use of available technology. In reality it doesn't really add speed as much as consistancy and repeatability.
Methanol/gasoline and tire size are the only real differences between the cars. The 24.5" tires have a gearing disadvantage but they are also easier on the tcase because the ring gear spins faster and load is put on each tooth for a shorter period of time.
Solid rear end, 4 link, wheelbase changes, longitudinal motor placement, etc....would make better arguements to seperate records or class of cars. None of which STM's car has, so I'd say its as legit as it can get.
Congrats guys!!

Cheers AMS. You guys have class.
This kind of level setting is likely to motivate other teams to try new things. I'm sure the times will get lower.
As an expat of NZ its great to see the Kiwi ethos in full swing.

Was the AMS car running Methanol for its 8.42? I always assumed the 8.42 wasn't on Alcohol as the 1142whp number was always thrown around as "no meth", and obviously DS9 runs on straight Q16.
