quarter mile times and trap speed

So I was wondering, based on quarter mile trap speeds, how would you determine your e.t.? I've read some threads where someone would post their times and speed and have someone else say ''at that speed you should be clocking xx.xx''. Is there a formula or is this just based on what others have ran down the track.

Theres so many variables that come into play its so hard to really use just 1 thing to explain why someone went XX time at XXX. Gearing plays a huge role, transmission type, tire height, driver ability, launch, shift speed, shift points, power curve, vehicle weight...just to name a few lol.

For our Evo's of average weight, average numbers ust to give an idea... for a 12 sec pass are 108-115, an 11 sec pass is around 115-12X, high 10's are around 125-13X, Low 10's are around 13X-15X, 9's range around 150-16X

I am quite interested in those variables, too. Currently figuring out how to increase the trap speed. Done 10.2 quartermile at 132mph, which is obviously on a low side on trap speed - with my setup i was expecting around 150. Please give me you best guesses (i will check myself anyway), what would be the 3 main ideas how to improve my trap speed.

I have Evo9 2.2l stroker, T04Z billet turbo, M800 mapped for VP import, dog-box, Hoosier DRs. Max revs at 9000, shifting near to redline, max boost around 35. Car weight around 2900lbs.

review your timeslip... your best clues lay right in your hand.
There are too many variables to guess.

btw slow shifting can have a huge effect on trapspeed. Also you should compare your whp dyno vs vehicle weight vs trapspeed. If you're driving like you should... and the dyno isnt reading way low/high it should measure up.

A 10.2 w/ 132mph is extremely quick for the trap. My guess is you ran strong in the 1/8mi and then something fell off in the back half. Either HP or your shifting.
OR your making mad midrange and for some reason your HP/boost falls off dramatically in the upper rev range.

again... post your timeslip. It will be clear once you review the 60ft, 330, 1/8, 1000ft, 1/4 (ET and Trap) (Dyno plot showing powerband and more importantly tq curve will help too)

Typically evo's will pick up about 30-35mph on the back half from the 1/8th mile if you drive it right the 1st half the track. (setup depending)

I trapped 105 in the 1/8th mile and ran 134mph in the 1/4. Ran 10.48 @134 with a 1.59 60ft.
And that was good shifting ect.

Weight is such a huge factor. If your serious about drag i would get a AWD lightweight Driveshaft and lighter rims. you would be surprissed what it does to you.

Working on my set up also

I am trapping 117 and only rolling in a 12.5 in the quarter. Running a 2+ 60 foot and just got new tires and new clutch being put in soon. Learning to shift is happening real slow. 11 in my crosshairs!

Buddy of mine went 11.6 @117mph with a 1.61 60ft and no lift shifting for reference.

Thanks, this is exactly what happens. My 1/8 trap is 112mph and then it comes to 132 at the end of 1/4. That is nowhere near to 30-35mph gain for "normal" evo at the second half. The symptoms are clear, now need to find the causes.

- unfortunately, i do not have a dyno plot. however, will try to check what happens from ECU logs. Probably something wrong in the high revs and high gears.
- my mechanics confessed they "engineered" some strange mods into the rear diff. These create extra tension which slows the car down, but for how much and why this affects more the secon half? will test this out.
- i am not a shifting guru, but with dogbox can shift decently. though, there is only one shift (3rd-4th) to be done during the second half, is this really an explanation for being much slower? will check from logs if this varies and has any impact on speed.

Still if anyone has ideas regarding slowdown on the second half - please do not hesitate to share.

^^^something is defenitely up with that 2nd half. My car went 105-106 in the 1/8 and a hair under 138 in the quarter. How many passes did you make? Did you blow off something and cause a boost leak? I would think you would have went mid 140's easy with that 1/8 mph.

I've never seen an Evo pick up 35mph on the back half. Normally it's in the 28-31mph range...that goes for just about any car that's got a decent setup. Even top fuel dragsters are in that range...they will trap 280mph in the 1/8th and 310mph or so in the 1/4.

I think it is because none of the 150+ guys post their 1/8 mile speeds. DB, Mike@AWD, STM, IVEY, AMS etc post 60' and 1/4 mile times and speed.

Here is a couple taken from the quickest & fastest thread;

3. Cwill, 2/10/10, ASAP/Speed Injected, Evo8, 2.0l 72mm DTA, 123 / 160.2

8. SpeedingTwinky / 2-28-2010 / MDR PERFORMANCE - Street Evo8 / Evo8 / Stock block, stock head, 60MM T3 turbo, no nitrous, 3300lbs w/ Driver - 106.67 / 140.50

12. Yianni Kouzilos / 4-18-10/THESHOPCT/Evo IX/THESHOP 2.0 with stock head,im,tb / BR FS635 / Junior Tuned / 93 octane 30psi, 101.34/134.38

....And these aren't even the fastest ones.
