Track helmets. what are you wearing?

Im looking to get into drag (would love to do circuit, but built this car for more street/drag action) and need a helmet to compete as per track rules.

anyway, started looking for a helmet and was told by a local cycle shop that it needs to be DOT and SNELL approved. anybody have any recommendations?

tried on the Bell Vortex and Icon Alliance in the store, and looked at the Shoei RF-1000 online.

ideas? strictly for track racing now with a chance of actual riding later, but not right away.

Just a quick copy and paste from the NHRA rulebook:

SFI Spec 31.1A = Snell SA, open-face helmet
SFI Spec 31.2A = Snell SA full-face helmet
SFI Spec 41.1A = Snell M, open-face helmet
SFI Spec 41.2A = Snell M full-face helmet

Full-face helmet mandatory on all cars 9.99 or quicker. See individual Class Requirements for additional requirements. Shield mandatory 7.49 and quicker.

NHRA Helmet Expiration Dates

Label Expires
Snell 2000 1/1/2012
Snell 2005 1/1/2017
Snell 2010 1/1/2022
SFI 31.1A 1/1/2014
SFI 31.2A 1/1/2014

Label Expires
SFI 41.1A 1/1/2014
SFI 41.2A 1/1/2014
SFI 31.1/2005 1/1/2017
SFI 41.1/2005 1/1/2017
SFI 24.1 (JDRL only) 1/1/2015
SFI 24.1/2005 1/1/2017

Most higher-end motorcycle helmets will also meet standards i myself use a G-Force helmet in matte black it's on the cheaper side as it gets pretty expensive when you need all the safety equipment to run sub 10's

hmm, dragstrips ive been going to require a helmet for 12.xx or faster.. (roll bars, cages, etc. start kicking in on 11's-10's but they are pretty lenient unless you run like a 10.00)

those g-forces are more pricey than the motorcycle ones i was looking at, actually. i was looking at 100-150 range, but there were a couple ones near 200. just wasnt sure if anyone here had a recommendation further than "try them on and buy the best fitment one"

Call around and see if any shops have Snell SA2005 helmets lying around. Bell, Simpson, whatever. When the SA2010s came out the 05s took a nose dive in price.

They're good until at least 2015 for competition use so no reason not to save.
