Best way to Launch

WARNING:
If you slip your clutch, it may burn and you will run a SLOWER time.

If you drop your clutch, you will risk damage to your clutch but will not damage your clutch as much as slipping at high rpm will. With a stock EVO the clutch will normally BREAK FIRST as MANY evo owners already know! This is done as a safety measure to protect the drivetrain.

I am not saying the clutch will always protect your drivetrain. If you have a lot of HP and/or a stronger clutch you will risk damage to your drivetrain.

Dropping the clutch is the best way of doing it for me.
Is there a better way to launch. A method that does not do as much damage.

If you have a better way of launching feel free to share your idea.
Hope this helps.

I like the quick slip methood.
Since my peak torque is at around 4,000RPM, I rev to aprox 3,000 and spool the turbo, then as i know the light will change i begin to get ready and let up on the clutch just a tad. Soon as the light changes i quickly release the clutch (not droping it) and give more gas at the same time.
IF done right the clutch grabs perfectly at 4,000ish sometimes a hundered or two lower. With this methood I get no clutch burn (unless I slip the clutch to long) and Get an amazing tire chirping launch.
With my current setup and tune I found this works great with my 313 High torque numbers.

well most people are concerened more about safty for their car then getting an amazing launch. that is why i use my tatic, I'm sure the clutch droping on a track would be the best but I wnat to keep my drivline.

i do it at about 2500 rpms but i found that when i did it at 3k (during the colder january month)... tires arent ever fully warmed up ... maybe 3k launches will be great once summer rolls around

i have a vr4 but can do back to back 1.6 60'. I rev to 5500 jab at the throttle like wah-wah-wah-wah to spool the turbos then do a quick slip while getting on the gas pedal at the same rate as the slip. Front tires at 17 psi rears at 35.

I've heard recommendations to run street tires around 25 psi for drag racing. 15-25 for street drag tires. So that sounds right to me

I can say 25 might be a tad to low it will help you on your launch but will hurt your mph in the 1/4.

as most have said here, slipping does seem to be better, , I think alot of factors play into this, If you think about it , if you rev to 4000-5000-6000 and drop the clutch in reality you only have the gas pedal to modulate any wheel spin. if you release the clutch fast and smooth you can acutally get into the gas faster since you can modulate wheel spin with the clutch if need be. now that being said, it is obvious if you do a low RMP drop you will not have wheel spin and hence not change any factors. likewise if you have great tires and traction, you could even do a 5000-6000 rmp drop of the clutch and possible just have a great launch. but if you are talking about most people on streets with limited tractions issues with stock tires if you do a fast slip there is less tranny shock and still great launches, i would rather toast a clutch early than but the tranny and diff. for physics purpose if you had all factors equal max RPM for Power/Torque, complete tractions an no broken parts the sooner you get everything going the quicker you will be so yes in a perfect world dropping the clutch could be faster , I just dont live in a perfect world. i do almost have the perfect car tho.

I slipped the clutch about 5000 RPM and it bogged a bit and took off very strong, but after it smelled horrible. Definately need lower RPM 3-4000 would be better

just did my running , with 5000rpm quick slips of the clutch did consistant 1.9 60 ft times. I did a lower rpm at 4000 clutch drop but it bogged. could have done a 1.8 maybe but i wanted to be smooth and not destroy parts just to snag 1.8 or 1.7, I was as fast as most of the Sport bikes. 1.8 and 1.9s for them as well.
