My journey to the SCCA Championship Run Offs, IX swap into an 8 and road race tuning

What a two weeks it has been guys

Two Fridays ago Pruven Performance finished the first IX Evo motor swap and 5 speed conversion into a previous 2005 MR with 6 speed.

Props to Pruven for a great job and being on the cutting edge of the scene as usual.

It was a great swap, all that was required was the engine to ecu harness and the ecu its all a bolt in swap and I was amazed by the gains.

In T2 class the cars can only run a cat back exhuast and a reflash

With the swap over to the IX motor we picked up 30 tq and whp across the power band

I had traveled down to Topeka last Tuesday to tune the car at the track for a practice session

Sadly before I had arrived the motor - the used IX motor the customer purchasd on line - had failed due to an oil pump failure.

There we were last tuesday with a blown engine and no spares

Enter Dan from Pruven and myself who went into over time

We ordered all the needed parts - sent the head to Buschur to get cleaned and checked over and rented a local shop to work out of.

Monday all the parts arrived and Dan and I sent into over time mode

Tuesday night a brand new short block and the refreshed head is all assembled in the car and running.

A few test drives up and down Topeka Blvd to dial in the tune on the new engine and its off to the races - having misssed the first to qualifiers of this week and all of last week's practice

STILL - ole Car number 5 was the fastest Evo in the field - beating the AMS and Work's cars best times

It took two weeks of my life to get this car into the race but its all worth while seeing it qualify so well on limited time!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Its good to see my tune working so well in that car making it the fastest evo around the track

Congrats on getting the car running. I know Bill has a bunch of experience running his car so he should do very well. I wish I could be out there but being gone the week before for GT live left me swamped.
Marty is still learning his new setup (struts & shocks) and I'm sure he'll give it his best during the race. It should be great to watch. Just to clarify Al, it's Marty's car, not our (AMS) car, and I sponsor and support his racing efforts. If Marty wins something, he deserves the credit for all that he did, we're just along for the ride!
Good luck to all racers and have fun out there.

A low 1:56 is very respectable give the talent that is in T2.

How is Phoenix involved in Bill's car?

Good luck!, we will be watching all 3 Evo's this weekend.

ps. check out that SRT-4 in 13th.

Sorry for the confusion . .

You can see how its easy to be confused on that one - either way Marty is a great guy and I wish him the best

I have no connection to the # 5 car other than I tuned it and Dan and I put the Evo IX motor in it

The results on the track is 90% the driver 10 % suspension and very litte tuning

BUT

I would like to think my tuning helps make him the fastest at the track of all Evo's (all of them are IX's) but I realize that the driver is 90% of the game

I gave up my NOPI race this weekend with my own car to be there in Kansas to get this car running like a clock so it is very satisfying to see him up on top of all evos there

Al

Considering that the T2 class requires a stock turbo and motor and stock cat with 3490 lbs - its a very amazing driving display to see it in that that time range with no practice or testing time

Phoenix built the cage and did the chasis work

Bill did a great job and Im very happy for him to have done as well as he did with such limited time, Im only disappointed he didn't beat Rosenblum in his Subie. However, just to clear up the facts, Bill did have a 40 minute practice prior to his engine letting go and he did have two "dry" qual sessions. I unfortunately had issues all week with my suspension (that I just received) and brakes. At that point I only had one good qual day to go out and I tried a new tire choice and it didn't work to say the least, this resulted in my starting way back in the pack. Fortunately I was able to come from 22nd to finish 13th and received the "Hard Charger" award for the driver that improves the most positions. The biggest difference between my car and Bills can be summed up in 3 words-suspension, suspension, suspension. Bill is also a great driver and competitor and has been at this game a long long time, he has been a huge help to me in my rookie season. I hope he sticks around the class with his Evo, we will need to work together if we want to dethrone the Subies. BTW, you guys did a great job getting his car back together in time for the race, My congratulations!!

Marty
