Dyno proof HKS RS Intake vs. K & N drop in - 11 whp difference

Here is some very interesting data

Here is a customer who came in with 3" exhuast, walboro pump, boost controller and he had the HKS RS suction kit on May 7

he made 303 whp and 309 ft lbs - I thought it was a very nice result with a few mods his car was running very smooth and strong

Apparently the customer could NOT stand the sound of the stock bov which was much louder through the HKS RS kit so he came back with his stock intake and K & N drop in filter 11 days later with the same exact mods expect the HKS RS intake

You can see that the car lost like 11 whp and 4 ft lbs of trq

It seems the power is equal down low and the top end is where the HKS unit starts to shine !

I would imagine that all the inatkes with suction pipes would yeild the same results e.g. the Buschur

So much for the theories advanced by other "tuners" who say there are no gains from aftermarket intakes

W esee huge gains from the HKS RS kit and also from the Buschur intake combined with suction tube

Also to a lesser extent the cusco intake tube is very good

THE APS intake is seriously powerful - but requires a full custom tune b/c of the way it significantly effects the air flow signal

how much more significant is the buschur intake hard pipe as oppose to just the buschur filter? I'm wondering if I should shell out that extra 200 bucks. need info asap because I'm sending my ecu out next week!

Its a significant gain

Keep in mind when you add the cams - we see some idle difficulties starting b/c the air velocity is not as fast in low rpm situations

With that said on the top end getting rid of that nasty rubber restrictive hose between the air box and turbo really frees up the air flow

Basically - I can say this - IF Buschur makes it - it makes you good whp gains

The AEM is not in the same league

For unknown reasons they consistantly produce lower whp on the dyno

Although its a well made unit and it reads the maf signal very consistantly - - it does seem to lack the gains I see with the Buschur and HKS units

WHY - I can't tell you but I am seeing a trend in DOZENS of the cars with AEM intakes

How about the K&N Typhoon?
I'm sure the HKS is the best..but it's filtration with the foam filter is terrible even when new...probably part of the reason it has the best gains...very little air restriction
Haven't you also seen some of the best overall results on a moderately modified Evo with the K&N drop-in?

"Cudos" Dave, nothing like some real data.... The curve is smoother on the HKS run telling me the tune is more refined.

So it's safe to say I should spend that extra 200 bucks right?
