Testing e85 at the pump - fill up routine
I've read some posts where folks are saying they test their e85 at the pump each time they fill up. I cannot see myself testing every single time I fill up. What method are you guys using to test e content?
The typical "test tube" type testers take about 5-10 minutes to get accurate results. You guys just sit at the pump and twittle your thumbs while waiting for results or is there a better method?
I am aware of the digital content analyzers, but I'd want to know the content before it goes into my tank.
Do you carry a 20oz bottle to squirt fuel into from the pump, test tube test, wait...wait...wait...get results, dump extra fuel from 20oz bottle? Can anyone explain their "e85 fill up routine"?

well what i do is just pump it in lol, most people dont have much choice. if your running e85 and only have 1 available pump. you have to use it. if it doesnt run right then lower your boost a little to be safe and wait for the next fill up. e85 is really finicky atleast in my experience. i can log runs back to back and it will vary by almost 30whp. for these reasons im going to stop dd my car on e85 and only use it for track days

I always carry a 5 gallon jug in my car just incase. If I don't use it I dump that in first and fill up the jug again and then top off my tank. During that time in between I put water in the test tube and use a infant syringe to fill the testube with e85 from the jug. No mess!
I fill up with propel in the NorCal region and I get e85 that ranges from e86 to e91. It's very consistent. After a solid 20 tests I stopped testing their ethanol since their rep told me every station is tested daily and is never below e85.
There are a few mom and pop places that mix it on site and in those scenarios I always test.

anyone have experience with 100 octane, im going to e85 and my closet pump is 25 miles away, but i have a station that has 100 octane less than 2 mins away, just wondering if in an emergency situation could 100 be mixed/ swapped with e85 efficiently?

I just bring a bottle to put e85 in and a bottle of water so I can mix at the pump get fuel in the bottle and go park to the side and test it. Rather take the 5min to test the fuel then be sorry when you just fill up and have issues...
